Storing a wood boat with 5200 bottom in desert heat

Who did the bottom? I would pole a number of shops that have done 5200 bottoms for years and see what they have to say. I don't see this as a '5200 tech line' question. That glue should have no problem. As you said, it is a question of the stability of he wood in the heat and dry...

    Transom Wood Selection

Oak is a very dimensionally unstable wood. I would choose a plywood.

need liability insurance for 1977 stardust cruiser, i park it in a slip at the lake, it has a steel hull

Try Geico,…. That is what I have (liability only). That keeps the rates Very affordable. A “suitability for insurance” will most likely be required. That is a less thorough survery than a pre-purchase survey.

1962 Chris Craft Holiday 20’ bucket list resto

I believe those bolts just run down through the frames and that’s it. I don’t think there are any screws from the bottom. There should be one bolt through each frame. Is that what you are seeing?

    Simple Floor Ideas?

I would probably use something a bit nicer than CDX, but that would work. I’d look for maybe a BCX. Regular exterior plywood has no preservatives in it so it is fine to use. If you don’t leave the boat outside & full of wet leaves just a couple of good coats of oil based paint (like...

Stopping in to say hi SOTY 2017

I don’t get to come by here too often, but some may remember my little rebuilding project. Just thought I would stop in, say hi, and let you know the boat is doing fine. I still run her down from R.I. To N.J. each summer by myself for a couple of weeks. Still a fun little boat that takes me...

Nice project. I would suggest that if that port stringer is 90+% good then the whole thing does not need replacing.

    Replacing plywood with solid wood?

Teak is oily, .......... Mahogany? mmmmmm.

    Wood for bulkheads

If you are still interested,.... Fir a project like this you can simply use regular 2x4’s or 2x6’s and scribe them to fit the shape of the bottom of the boat. Then just some ACX or BCX plywood panels screwed to the top of them will work fine. I would make them in small enough sections so they...

    History on my boat.

To say the least it’s been an interesting year for all of us. I have been making good use of the boat and have had some good trips. Took a bunch of pictures too, then my phone completely died in mid summer so I didn’t have any pictures to post as an update here. I still checked in here...
