    knob on shift/throttle control?

I have a 1998 20ft suncruiser pontoon with a 50hp Johnson outboard. On the shift/throttle control near the ignition switch there is a small black knob that turns both directions, does anyone know what it is for? thanks

    Water pump will not prime/pump

I have a '89 OMC 5.0L and a Omc Cobra outdrive, after dewinterizing I attached my earmuffs and started the engine, the temperature climbed fast so I shut it down. I pulled the hose off of the thermostat housing that goes down to my impeller water pump, started the engine and no water comes out...

    Exhaust by-pass flapper missing

I have an '89 Bayliner with a OMC 5.0L. The butterfly flapper valve in the right exhaust tube is missing, I think you call it a by-pass valve. I guess it broke off and fell down in farther. If it did is that going to cause a problem, maybe block exhaust flow on that side? Thank You

    swapping engines and outdrives

Don't everybody laugh at once, but here's a crazy question. Is it possible to take a 5.0L with an OMC Cobra outdrive out of a 89 bayliner and replace it with a 3.0L mercruiser and an Alpha I outdrive. I ask because I can buy the Bayliner cheap(bad motor, good outdrive). I have an 87 Mark...

    Confused about stators

OK, I thought that only outboards used stators for their electrical requirements. Just recently I came across 2 people who have told me that they had spent quite a bit of money converting their stator over to an alternator on their i/o engines (Mercruisers). Both of these boats are for sale...

    draining water from engine

Is it OK to drain the water from the engine into the bilge area (with the plug pulled of course) for winterizing purposes. I have a manual and it says to use an appropriate drain pan, Yea, Right. I can't get a drain pan down there, and when I found a small one that barely fit I made a bigger...

    exhaust bellows cement

I have read that when replacing exhaust bellows you should use glue or cement along with the clamps. When I am ordering a new bellows I don't see where they come with any type glue/cement. So does this mean the parts manufacturer is not requiring it. I did'nt even see where it could be purchased...

    loud exhaust on 3.0L

I just purchased my first boat, a 1987 Mark Twain, 19ft, with a 3.0L mercruiser and Alpha One. The exhaust sounds just like my Brothers 28ft Mariah with a 454cid. It is LOUD, just wondering if this is normal or is there someplace that at exhaust leak can occur making it sound like a Hotrod...
