I'd like to remove the choke knob on my Mark 58 to replace the grommet it rides in as well as to repaint the top cowl. Trouble is, I can't tell for sure how it comes out -- if it's one piece I don't want to bugger it up trying to unscrew the knob from the shaft... .
Anyone know whether and how...
The Mark 58/58A that I'm slowly bringing back to life fires up and runs, but despite a new impeller I don't get any water out the pee hole. I'm reasonably confident that it's pumping, since it doesn't show any sign of overheating and I'm seeing water here and there at the top of the driveshaft...
I found the following link from the Gas Engine Magazine web site really useful:
http://gasengine.farmcollector.com/Gas-Engines/Building-and-Using-a-Magneto-Timer.aspx
It describes how to build a "buzz box" that indicates when your magneto points open to assist in setting the timing. (Mine's...
I've got a Kiekhaefer 4D-5 magneto that I'm troubleshooting. It will throw a spark from the coil contact to ground about 1/4-inch, which seems weak from what I read here. (It's supposed to be about 1/2-inch, right?) I'm seeing a pretty good spark across the contacts when the points open: Does...

I've started calling a 58/58A because I've finally concluded that this is a Mark 58 with a Mark 58A top cowl. So, the questions:
1. Should there be a spring on the bottom of the choke linkage to counteract the solenoid? Doesn't seem...
Is there any reason that I can't reassemble the lower unit and gear housing on my Mark 58 before reinstalling the powerhead? I would like to get the shifting sorted out while I can easily get to everything. Seems like the only thing to worry about aligning when installing the powerhead last...
Tried to reassemble my gear housing to the driveshaft housing the other day after replacing the water pump impeller, and had some difficulty getting it to mate up all the way... the driveshaft splines were engaged, but the shift shaft seemed balky.
Being an idiot and assuming that I hadn't...
Not sure what the etiquette is here: I have lots of questions and seems like it might be better to put them all in one very long post instead of multiple ones. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm breaking the rules... . :) I've been searching the forums and while I've found some answers and...
