This sucks I drilled small holes at bottom of transom and it went straight through and I pulled out brown wood on drill bit. The top half is good but not bottom half.
It seems to be pretty solid.i went around the whole boat with a hammer and there are a couple small soft spots but the main one was in back where batteries were. it was completely rotton and one motor mount was rotton. Other than that it is solid and transom seems solid.
Recently purchased a 88 searay Seville 4.3. I was wondering if they were good boats. I have heard a lot about the late 80s searays being poorly made and having wood rot problems. Can someone tell me how solid these boats are.
I have been tryIng to find a compression issue on my 4.3 and after taking the head off I found that the head gasket was blown between 2 cylinders and there is a small crack in both the head and block where it blew. The crack does not go very far. I don't know if it would be ok to replace...
I did a leak down test and found that the valves are shot on affected cylinders. I don't know if it is worth fixing it or I should just replace engine. I don't want to spend a lot of money. Would it be an option using a Chevy 4.3 out of an S10 or something.

Recently bought a boat with a mercruiser 4.3 and alpha one out drive. It did not pump water at all before. I just replaced the impeller, it is pumping some water but overheating. I took off hose from out drive and it does not really pump any water at idle but when revving it it birps water out...
I just put a 350 Chevy engine in my boat that came from a car. I put all the parts from the old motor on. I am having issues with backfiring through the carb, so I messed with ignition timing and noticed that it actually runs a lot better with timing way before TDC. What could be causing this?
