Just purchased a 1992 17' Blue Water open bow boat with the 4.3LX (4bbl) engine and the Alpha 1 Gen II outdrive. I took it out to the local (Perris lake) lake last weekend for a shake down run. I was pretty happy with its ride and performance having come from a 14' Gregor fishing boat.

Just purchased a 1992 17' Blue Water boat with the 4.3LX/ Mercruiser drive. When I plane the boat and I try to trim the bow up at all, the boat begins to build up this bobbing action. If I trim the bow down, the problem goes away.
What is this called and what causes it?
Thank You in advance.
I tried to update a previous post and couldn't. A little background, I have a 1987 20 hp that had a VERY bad torque steer issue that trimming the motor in or out didn't help. When I purchased the motor, it had a rear corner of the cavitation plate broken off.
I installed a fabbed piece of...
I have a 15 hp carb and spare 8 pitch prop. I avoid Ebay as much as possible. Is there anywhere else that you have found that is a good place to sell this kind of stuff on line? Thanks
Well its fixed! I installed a fabbed piece of aluminum to replace the broken corner of the anti-cavitation plate. I haven't TIG welded it on as of yet, as I have 3 bolts going thru the anode/trim tab holding the piece on very snugly.

I also found that if I trimmed the motor to far...
My fater in law purchased what I think is a 1998 6 hp 2 stroke 2 cyl Evenrude outboard for $250. The dark blue paint was covered with a camo paint job. The previous owner removed the id sticker. I have only been able to guess at the year based on the date of MFG stamped on the flywheel (10/7/97)...
I will be selling my 100 lbs 1976 9.9 on ebay when I get back from a week of fishing in the Sierra's, yahooooo!

Anyways, what is the best method of shipping this type of motor? UPS, FedEx, Roadway or ? Is it better to crate the motor and add more weight or pad it and box it?
<br...
Faulty switch box did it. Two trips to two different lakes confirmed running good. To all of those who helped, Thank You.

Makes my 14' gregor "haul the mail". A little longer to get on plane at 6,800' than the 1,800' lake. But sooooo much better than the 9.9 it replaced.
<br...
I hate the ebay way since they charge you fees up front and again after you sell. By the time thet collect all of their fee's, you've lost most of your money.

I have an electric start 1976 9.9 with ALL new ignition parts (both coils, plugs, points, condensors and pick up coil), water...
I would like to convert my cable operated 1986 20 hp to a tiller drive, any ideas other than keeping an eye on e-bay? Any names of places or links would help me.

Thanks
Hello guys and gals. ser#0A921206

I just purchased a used motor and I went to test run it at home. It idled very rough and was slugish on power. I found only one cyl. was getting a good spark. Here is what I did.

1. Compression test showed 95 psi in both cyls, motor is...
