@captmello The boat has never been in salt water (that I know of) and shows no signs of it. I have run with muffs and in the water and get nothing to the heat exchanger (raw water side). It overheats while at idle. I just cant seem to get it to pull water through the raw water system. I have...
@Lou C thank you for that! I have run a hose directly into the exchanger and it flows out of the exhaust making me believe the line to, and through, the exhaust is not clogged. I don't think the closed loop side has any issues at all. The raw water side seems to be the issue. I am simply not...
please forgive the crudeness of this but it really is this simple of a system. The coolant side is separate from the fresh water side and it is clear that the problem is the fresh water side not pulling.
Thank you for the reply! I appreciate you! I have read that people open their heat exchanger and get water flowing and I have not ever seen any coming from it. I have not used a clear tube for any of it. I would have to find some large diameter clear tubing... The plumbing is straight forward...
Ok guys, I've read just about every thread I can find seeking solutions but I'm desperate and not finding a solution. I have an AQ125 with a 270 outboard and my engine is overheating. When I remove the cap on the heat exchanger, I never see moving water. Here's what I've done:
-Brand new...
I wish it did. My going theory is there's a leak from the suction points on the outboard to the impeller.
-I've isolated the heat exchanger/exhaust/contained engine coolant side and it is solid. The thermostat has been replaced, tested, and works. By running the hose directly to the heat...
Disregard my last, I've isolated the problem to the fresh water side. I stuck a hose in the fresh water opening for the heat exchanger and ran it. Didn't get close to overheating. This proves the problem is on the fresh water pickup side. I will take it all apart again and try to find leaks
Tried again and it failed again. Anyone ran theirs without a t-stat installed? It ran great as it heated up, and at one point I could tell the thermostat opened because it cooled rapidly, and then it stopped cooling again.
Ok, double feed ears, new hoses and connections all the way to the heat exchanger, still no water out of the exhaust. Removed the exchanger and cleaned it. The only thing I haven't done is remove the circulation pump but that's on the coolant side and it wouldn't stop fresh water from making...
I recently reworked and replaced almost my entire cooling system on my AQ125/270. Prior to working on it, the engine fired up and ran like a dream. Now, I get a puff of smoke from the exhaust, and the carb, every once and a while during cranking and the engine won't start. The last thing I did...
After doing some deep YouTube research, none of the other AQ125A engines have the oil cooler installed. I will be filling the manifold beneath the thermostat with coolant and checking on the circulation pump. *fingers crossed*
The tub covers the outboard and all it's suction points. I have checked the impeller three times and it is in fantastic shape. I just replaced it to be safe and the old one looks brand new. The ears I used previously didn't work well as there is a hole on the bottom that needs to be plugged...
