so the saga continues.
anyone who read my previous post about my 4.3 lx with thunderbolt 4 ignition running goog for 5 minutes then crapping out, here is the latest.
i took the boat back to the shop that origionally serviced it... a second time.
please refer to...
4.3 lx mercruiser with 4 barrel weber. 50 hours. ran perfect last summer.
de winterized my boat this year, which pretty much consisted putting the plugs back in and hooking up the hoses.
it started up just fine. let it idle for about 10 minutes in the yard to let the fogging oil burn off. was...
so the drama continues with my old 175 hp black max - its the old one with the blue stripe - late 70s.
replaced the water pump and now i cant get the lower unit back on
the tube that goes down into the water pump is just slightly off, doesnt line up and is keeping it from going together...
engine: old late 70s merc 175 black max v6 number 4301235 or so
problem was engine was running rough so had a compression and spark test done.
mechanic said it was running rough because the stator was bad.
he pulled out 2 wires from under the fly wheel going to the power packs and said there...
here is a picture of my rams. im trying to determine if they are the "old small prestolite" rams that require a high pressure high performance trim pump.
they have no markings at all, no part numbers, no words that i can see of any kind.
they are almost as big around as a beer can so i would...
can i just replace my old (late 70s early 80s) power trim pump with the newer style oildyne pumps?
i have an old 175hp black max and the trim pump is suspect -as far as i can tell it just pumps oil - 1 line in and 1 line out so why buy an old pump for 3 times as much as a newer style oildyne...
alright so i need to change a hose fitting for the power trim on an old style black max.
does anyone know what size and thread type are mercury standard for trim hoses?
the rest of the boat has all the same size fittings- from the trim pump to the rams, i just need to know exactly what it is...
so i have an old 175 hp black max which was not origional to the boat and it looks like the trim pump and motor was left over from the old setup. the old black max just goes up and down slow - no trailering or second speed option that i can see just 2 rams. the old pump just has an in and out...
alright so i just got this engine - i know the black max is a bit a bit of an older design but my dad has the 150hp and it runs great. this is the late 70s early 80 v6 175 hp 2700 something cc's that they called a 3 liter.
the motor runs well, has 120psi on all cylinders and the only problem...
so i just bought my first outboard boat. small 18ft ranger bass boat to use around the morehead city, nc ICW and nuse river and maybe pamilco sound on calm days. the boat seems very solid and it has a strong motor on it. i got it for what i think is a good price. however it has one small crack...
