Well I took the little primer bulb off and managed to get some carb cleaner into the little holes. Let that sit for an hour and then it was able to pull solvent into itself from a little cup so I put it back on and now it's sending fuel where it's supposed to go. It fired on the first pull and...
Mercury Parts Catalog The pics I get of the carbs show a cover plate (part #22). Mine doesn't have that part just a plain hose barb on the side in place of the cover plate. That's just one example of a difference.
The primer bulb doesn't move gas to the carbs when you need it to for a cold start. When you push it the gas in the tube just goes back into the upper carbs bowl and when you release it the same amount comes back up the tube but never goes far enough to make it to the carbs for priming. The rest...

I've been trying to pull up the parts list/diagram on the Mercury parts site but haven't been able to find my particular motor/carb setup.
Manual start with the little primer bulb for the carbs. The bulb won't pull gas up far enough to then send it back down to the carbs. The pickup tube sits about 2/3 full and when you depress the primer bulb it pushes all the gas back into the upper carb but when you let it go it only goes back...
I got the motor used and the needle cap wasn’t on it. I didn’t even know it ever had one until I saw it on the parts diagram a couple years ago. Thanks for the help. I’ll take it apart again soon.

Starts easy and runs fine at high idle and up but won't idle down and stay there.
I've had it several years and the carb always hates sitting around not being used whether I drain it or not it wants to be cleaned. Anyway, a week ago I went to run it at home and it wouldn't idle so...
This is my first Mercury so bear with me.
SN is 0G449063 model is C40MLA 1997. Just bought it, runs great, etc. Previous owner said he never replaced water pump or impeller so I'm looking up parts using that model number and I get THIS parts list. Two obvious differences are the carbs (square...
95 Johnson 48 Special.
Do currently available impellers for this motor require an o-ring between itself and the impeller plate like OEM or is that o-ring no longer relevant?
I'm replacing the water pump and ordered a kit. The OEM impeller has a recess on the bottom for an o-ring that sits on...
4 horse Tohatsu. The hole in the first pic leaks a lot of gas when running. Is it supposed to have a brass plug like in the second pic? If so what's it called and how do I get one? Doesn't look like a Welch plug or at least what I'm used to. Haven't seen anything like that in carb repair kit.
