Everything else is fine. The motor, sterndrive, upholstery, the floors actually solid, no soft spots. Maybe the very back by the transom. The hull seems to not have any rot. Overall the boat is in really great condition.
It's just the waterlogged foam mostly.
Thank you all for the helpful insight.
Aside from less volume for water to take up and something to walk on, I couldn't understand how foam and a floor did their part in the structure of the boat.
I have watched a few videos on YouTube on how to do the repairs. Notably "Mental Health Day"...
Aside from waterproofing the floor. Is it absolutely critical to use resin and fiberglass on the floor? Or will some strong plywood be good enough to use for a few days. Again, this plywood is good, it ain't cheap but it isn't the best either, it's temporary.
And aside from preventing water...
We did take it out in some choppy water, probably the biggest waves the boat will ever see in the rest of its life and it held up great. The transom is solid and doesn't show any signs of rot so I'm hoping the stringers are fine too, if they do need to be replaced then it will be done next year...
Hi all. New here.
I got an older boat, 18 foot 1980 champion inboard fiberglass boat with a 120hp engine. Pretty sure the floor is rotting and the foam is waterlogged. Engine and sterndrive are in great condition. No leaks at all. This is my first fiberglass boat.
So I can drive the boat as...
