Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

    Pretty good, for a cellphone.

Tools that younger people would not recognize.

Made the mistake of using stainless on an exhaust flange once. Never again. I've seen some pretty trick coated hardware in the wild over the years... but typically they're more expensive than what they'd be bolted to.

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

I'm very calm, but me knee jerk reaction was to say something. Instead I just took care of business and got out of the way ASAP, no word.

I was ‘That’ guy at the ramp coming in yesterday.

When I went out last week a guy pissed me kff. Got the boat tied on the bulk head (off the ramp incase someone came in hot and needed to get out ASAP, which has happened) got the truck pulled around, the strap out on the winch and then backed in after leaving the staging area. Hopped on the boat...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Made my marina hands a tray of 7 layer cookies as a thank you at the start of every season. They took care of business and appreciated that. May also be because my other buddy buys them the devils lettuce and they need a snack afterwards.

Water in gear oil... (Not a great day)

I've had this happen before with this particular flo-torq hub... Reading around merc makes a second hub kit with a rear bushing recommended for higher pitch/rake props to prevent exactly this. Mind you it didn't do this the last outing and the only way the shaft could've bent was sitting in my...

I actually had to adjust the rear drums (yes some still have that even in 2026) on my girls corolla a few months ago. Found the spoon in the drawer of dads tool box lol.

I still have a few spouts laying around for oil cans. Those are from way before my time though.

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

I originally went off plug reads which indicated lean... coincidentally I did have a vacuum leak as well which probably skewed the plug reads. Currently I pulled the AFR meter out as I, at my jetting, was seeing 12.5-13.5 pretty much everywhere I would run which I would say seems safe. I had a...

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

It's pretty snappy everywhere honestly. Again, metering through 4 jets when the secondary is open plus having a metering rod for cruise is probably where the improvement comes from vs having just the 2 jets to cover the entire operating range. I was actually able to watch the AFR rise slightly...

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

One other thing I've tested somewhat un scientifically... I've run the same route now a few times with both the 2bbl and 4bbl and it would appear that the 4bbl at cruise is a good bit more fuel efficient. Figured out I'm burning something to the tune of 5 gallons per hour and averaging nearly 4...

Water in gear oil... (Not a great day)

So it didn't blow up after about 85 miles of running. So that's cool. I have a noticeable vibration that wasn't there however. It appears to be the hub, and isn't the first time I've had an issue with this. Watching the prop freewheel in neutral while flushing you can see it speed up on the...

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

Yeah. Haven't paid for a pump out in 16 years. Just 60k in taxes.

    Do it yourself Pumpout?

We have several public pump outs at transient slips around me that are no charge and maintained by the towns/county. Pump out boats are no charge as well. Obviously I'm paying taxes towards that but still... it's one nice perk I suppose.

Today I learned not all pump out stations are free.
