Relocating oil filter on a Mercruiser 5.7?

Any risk in using an automotive application relocator as opposed to a marine one? Reason I ask is there is a considerable price difference. Thanks in advance!

Please help me identify my boat prop!

This weekend I tore up my prop pretty good, but am having a hard time identifying a replacement. My boat is a 1997 Bayliner Capri SS with a 5.7L and Mercruiser Aplha One lower. The prop is a 14.5x19 pitch, but I don't believe it is an actual Mercury prop. The prop slides onto the shaft loosely...

    More boat launch sillyness.

Was out last weekend and saw an older couple launching at a busy marina. He was in the truck, her in the boat. They got her in the water and I am guessing she was trying to back up, but she went forward instead. Then instead of letting off the throttle she froze up and launched the boat up onto...

Just bought an 88' Celebrity Calais 18" and she leans to port side bad under power... The previous owners are family, and they noticed the problem first. It is a Mercruiser I/O V6. When they bought the boat a few months ago they asked me why it wasn't handling well, and I noticed it didn't...

So I need a new choke right?

On my 2.3 OMC. Had more issues on the lake this weekend. Boat was extremely cold blooded, but I could eventually get it started if I covered the carb intake with my hands until it warmed up. It ran fine once it was warm. I got it home tonight and discovered that the carb flaps were staying...

Trailer wheel bearing. How the HECK do I get this cotter pin out?

It is recessed inside the wheel assembly about 2 inches. I don't know how I can reach it to get it out. There isn't much space outside of the castle nut. if I pried it out I don't know how I would get one back in. any ideas?

This may be a dumb question about setting dwell on a points ignition.

I have a 2.3 OMC. Every manual and write up I've seen says to set your dwell first, then do your points gap before finally setting your timing. I don't understand this, because as I see it setting your points gap does the dwell at the SAME TIME. I know they are 2 different factors, but there...

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an ignition switch, or a photo of the back?

1988 Bayliner Capri, OMC 2.3. I am having a problem with my ignition cutting out or sticking on. I have been through 3 starter solenoids, and am unsure of the wiring at the ignition switch itself. Mine cranks the boat, but there is a loose brown wire there that is attached to nothing. It was...

How do I wire my starter solenoid correctly?

This is an OMC 2.3. On my starter solenoid there are 4 posts, 2 big and 2 small. One of the big ones is always hot (battery), the other big one is always cold (ground), one of the small ones is only got during cranking and the other small one is constant hot when the motor is running. Well...

Replacing resistor wire with in-line resistor?

On an OMC 2.3L inboard. To eliminate the possibility of it being my problem (not always getting spark at the coil), can I replace the resistor wire between my ignition coil and alternator with a heavier gauge wire and install an in-line 9V resistor?

Had a bad weekend on the lake, have some ignition system questions.

This is an OMC 2.3 inboard. Last season I had it running great. This season I took it out of storage and it started right up, and I've had it out 3-4 times with no issues. Don't know if this is related but the last time bringing it home I got caught in a rainstorm and the motor got wet (I...

So what is everyone's $ damage for getting the boat out of storage this year?

Mine wasn't too bad! $50 - New tire. $30 - New ignition coil; mine was cutting out last year so I anticipated having to replace it. $60 - New boat cover, previously covered with a large tarp that had worn but kepy my boat clean and dry all winter! $20 - replacement OMC shift interruptor...

    Review of my winterizing plan?

1988 Bayliner Capri w/ 2.3L Ford. This is my first time winterizing, so please let me know if I am on track. The boat will be stored outside in eastern Kansas, we usually have mild winters but it'll still go below freezing a few times. This is pretty much all from the original owners manual...

If I knew what I know now I would not have bought my boat, but I got lucky....

I bought my boat towards the beginning of this summer, and it was my first. I didn't know much about boats mechanically, but this one started up on muffs and was cheap so I grabbed it up. In retrospect man there were some serious red flags! Thinking now if I were to go today and look at a boat...

I've been too embarassed to ask this, but curiosity has gotten the better of me.

I'm not sure if this is OMC specific, but on the back of my boat (88 Bayliner Capri) towards the starboard side next to the lower unit there is a wire leading to a little lever situated at the bottom of my boat. What is it and what does it do? I am guessing maybe it's a killswitch for the...
