I am connecting my Garmin 545S to my Furuno 1715. On the Garmin it shows to connect nmea 0183 Neg. to the battery ground, however, the Furuno shows to connect it to the other devices input neg. Does the Furuno 0183 nmea neg. wire go to the battery ground?

1) can I use a low pressure aftermarket seal?
2) Is there another source to buy this very expensive shaft seal?

What is the aproximate speed I might get if I install a Mercruiser 165 inline 6 in a 24' skipjack. I have a newly rebuilt engine and outdrive, so if it would go 20 mph I might consider installing the inline 6.
