Well it still ran poorly so I ripped the engine a part tonight. The upper and lower crank seals were leaking slightly. The cylinder walls have fine scratches. The lower piston picked up something and marked the skirt.<br /><br />The engine will get honed and put back together with new seals...
Ihave a 1979 Johnson 4hp that loses power at high rpms. It bogs down and acts like it isn't getting enough fuel. I rebuilt the carb and it still does the same. I should add that I use this 4hp on my canoe so it runs at higher rpms most of the time. I notice I can only get 10 kph (6 mph) out...
What parts do I need to rebuild the carb on the mighty Johnson 4hp? It seems to run lean at wide open throttle. If I pull the chock just slightly the rpms go up.
I ran my 1979 Johnson 4 hp on my canoe for the first time this year. It blew out the head gasket and pumped water into the bottom cylinder and engine shut down. I paddled the canoe back.<br /><br />I have the gasket on order and I need to know what the head bolts are supposed to be torqued to?
