Stupid question probably but here goes.. haha
I am going to pull my motor again this weekend and want to find out if it's possible my transom is rigged correctly? Is it possible for the two plates (the inside and outside that sandwich between transom of the boat) are cocked or out of alignment...
Has been a total nightmare. Why is it that when I want to buy something I get to a salesman in 15 seconds, but if I have an issue, I wait on hold for 1.5+ hours or wait 3+ hours for a call back? (if I even get a callback)
I wasted an entire week trying to get parts. When I checked out, it said...
Still trying to chase down my grinding/vibration. Today I tore out the new gimbal and stuck an alignment bar in the coupler to see if I could tell if coupler was ripped/spun and it doesn't take any kind of force to move the coupler around. I can plainly see there is a misaligment with the...
HELP!
The only thing that isn't right is the alignment. I get grease marks very faint on port and real heavy on starboard. Top and bottom are the same. That is the best I could get after jumping in and out of my boat for three days after work!
I have a feeling you're going to tell me...
Thanks for the discussion!
I made a crude drawing of what I'm dealing with.
Let me know how you would start adjusting. Like I said, it's a PITA to get to these bolts and they seem to be frozen. Have PB on them now.
I checked alignment when I pulled my drive and it was pretty darn good. Now after a bellows/gimbal/driveshaft replacement, the alignment bar is rubbing real hard on the bottom and starboard portion of bar. I got splines almost all the way around. But it's taking grease clean off on the bottom...
4.3gl 2bbl Holley with electric choke.
If I start the motor it idles at 600rpm, then if I give it throttle and go back to idle it idles at 1000rpm. Then, if I switch the key off and restart it idles at 600rpm.
I adjusted the cable, choke seems fine
I searched high and low about removing and replacing the entire driveshaft assembly and don't see much.
I did read that you need to re-do the crush sleeve and press bearings out, and another that says to just unbolt and then torque the bolt back +5lbs.
Is this something best left to a shop?
I thought for sure I had bad gimbal or u-joint but I finally got everything together and still have the same noise. I put new gimbal in, bellows, aligned drive and checked over u-joints really well. No play, no rough spots, just butter smooth u-joints and gimbal.
When the drive is straight I...
I installed new bellows, gimbal, and grease seal on my SX-M drive and had a few observations/questions.
1.The driveshaft bellows: It had the oem rubber one and it was seated at the transom housing flush with the flange. The new plastic style does not sit flush. By flush, I mean the collar where...
I have a 2004 Caravelle with a 4.3gl/sx-m drive. I bought it from a guy who let it sit for 3 years with only 59 hours on the whole boat. Everything looks like new. (I replaced all exhaust, and all maintenance stuff)
When I have the drive on muffs and turn to the starboard side it has a bad...
I just received this kit and it has a plastic T that goes on the intake water hose. I already have a T for the flush hose adapter. Can I just make something that screws into the engine flush hose end?
Our cars/trucks have exposed u-joints and last 100's of thousands of miles. Why is it that when you get a little leak in the bellows, and rust forms, the shops all want to replace it?
Why is a VP driveshaft so different than a Chevy?
My trim pump works, it moves the drive up and down, but when I go down from when it's up completely up (parked) it will emit a slight squealling noise that makes it sound like it ratcheting down. It's not, it's moving smoothly. Weird thing is, if I go down all the way, then come up, BUT not all...
Hello folks!
I bought the alignment/bearing install tool from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310220416344&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT but didn't find out until I received it that it has to be setup with the Gimbal bearing in the boat...
