    durhams would be my choice, or marine tex. oth drillable so can stay thin on the aluminum.

    fill with Durhams Rock Hard and face plate it with maybe 1/16 aluminum with softened corners to match the piece that has been paint white.

    also, 'more than it is worth' is a given with a boat. You need to use the ROI of the cost against the entirety of boating, not just the hardware. as with most hobbies, it is about what brings you happiness.
