This is an early OMC Stringer upper gear unit 1968-71 with 21:13 gear ratio used with 80 and 90 HP. He said that it came off a 4 cylinder. Its the whole upper housing. Sorry thats all the info I have gotten.
Just looking for help. Right now my outdrive gear ratio is like 21 and 19 with inboard v6. I was wondering if the gear ratio 21 and 13 would hold up? I can get a upper unit with the ratio 21 and 13 very cheap with perfect gears but if they won't hold up then there is no use for it. Any help?
Can you go from a 21 20 gear ratio to something like a 21 18? It's a stringer outdrive in a v6. The boat doesnt seem to go to fast and wondering if I change up the ratio it might go a little better just dont want to tear up any gears and get stranded.
i was wondering if someone might know what would be the best pitch to get for this. the gears in the upper housing came out of a thomas with a ford v8 in it and i put it in the upper housing for a 4.3 v6 in a renker. the porp now is stamped 15 x 17 but seems like it takes a while to plane out...
