    Motor flushing

My 200 HP Evinrude has a hose fitting/pee hole for flushing the engine. I've been told I can flush the engine by removing that fitting, attaching the garden house directly without running the engine. Would I be better off using headphones on the water intake ports with the engine running?

    Water pump failure

My 115 HP 1996 Johnson is overheating, even at idle speed, and will do so in about 2 minutes of running. The pee hole gives a good stream. I removed the water pump and it looks perfect. The vanes are not warn and still flexible. Any good ideas? I have a new pump nearly ready to try with a...

    Electric motor pedal

Has anyone come up with a good way to attach footpedal/steering where the pedestal seat is a bit too close to the boat bow. Is there a way to attach an extended platform to the pedestal itself which would perhaps allow the pedal to even be mounted beyond the bow? My legs are just too long!

    Hot bearings

Both wheels on the right side of my tandem trailer were too hot to touch upon our return home. Grease spattered all over the wheels. The left side was not even warm. I removed the hubs and found the bearings to be OK, repacked them, readjusted the brakes (surge) and added bearing buddies...

    Overheat at low speed

My 115 Johnson, new water pump, head gasket, etc., overheats at idle to about 2200 RPM. At WOT the engine runs like a charm and never overheats. Previous owner may have never/seldom flushed the engine after salt water use. I did sucessfully repair a crack in the water jacket, but now it is the...

    How hot is OK?

Is it really true that my 115HP 1996 Evinrude, while using headphones and a hose connection from a 44 degree well, with an idle speed of 1000 RPM's, should run cool enough to allow my hand to remain on the head. It's too hot for that, and the telltale water is ice cold. Other discharges are...

    Cracked Block saga continues

My '96 Johnson 115 had 2 cracks in the water jacket which I had welded. The welder went onto slightly grind the area where the head gasket seals the jacket to the head. I believe the combustion seal is good, but it is still leaking water from the gasket, but not the welded cracks. Is there a...

    Cracked block

My 1996 115HP Johnson, (new to me) has two cracks in the block. Each crack is about one inch long and they are about 1-1/4" apart. Both cracks extend to the head gasket. I'm planning to have it welded. Any thoughts  ? How about encouraging words?
