Also, when I took the fuel pump apart, there was specs of varnish inside the pump if that’s what you call it. The diaphragm was not punctured or anything like that so I put everything back together with the old fuel pump and still have the same issue.
I can only start the motor with a shot of starting fluid. After that, I can start it all day long no problem. So I thought I’d start with the easy stuff the fuel pump and fuel filter.
I’m trying to replace a fuel pump on a 1988 60 hp 2 cycle 3 cylinder Mercury outboard.
The old pump number is 98766. I ordered a new one but it doesn’t fit. It has a knob on the back side that won’t let it seat properly. I’ve attached pictures of the old and new pump.

Yes, you are right, 5-star Marine does not sell a seal kit for the older models. My model is 3860726. I found a seal kit on Amazon for that model. I hope it works. I have thread started asking for information on how to replace the seals.

So when looking for trucks, if the specs say weight distribution hitch, I need to stay away from that. And to look for something with at least 7500lb towing capacity.
