I pulled off my prop today on a recently purchased 25 hp evinrude and to my surprise no shear pin but a splined shaft and prop. What's the advantage and disadvantage of this set up compared to a prop with a shear pin. The prop is marked 9 x 10 315084 and now I'm nervous and want to get a back...

I have a 1973 18hp long shaft great runner but really need a short shaft and found one same year and hp was wondering if I could swap the motor from the long shaft to the short if need be I'm not sure yet if the motor with the short shaft needs work or not. Thanks in advance for the help.
