The easiest and most precise way to install a gimbal bearing

A few days ago I got around to replacing the gimbal bearing in my Alpha One Gen1 drive. I have the alignment shaft and installment tools that came with it, but had a big problem to use it up to now, because it asks me to drill a hole through the shaft and mount the bearing install tool at a very...

    Is this engine oil good?

Thanks for all the info. That's why I posted it here in the first place to hear other boaters input and opinion. I haven't bought that oil or used it and if I ever do I will make sure it passes all the check marks.

    Is this engine oil good?

But the label says it is. Do you really think they risk being sued?

    Is this engine oil good?

The way I look at it, this this oil is most likely as good as any in that category, if not better. If you can't trust the label, well then I'll give up or go crazy. I figured I am not gonna worry about. And the price is good too.

    Is this engine oil good?

Quicksilver so conveniently does not disclose any certification data on their oils other than FC-W. Quicksilver is at best a blend. I believe Mercury specifies a fully synthetic oil. The rating on Triax is NMMA, FC-W, API SM, JASO MA. I think that's better than OEM but I don't know what all of...

    Is this engine oil good?

I came across what I consider a great substitute engine oil that seems to meet all the Mercruiser requirements and is reasonably priced at $36.94 for a 5 quart jug. That is enough to do a 4.3 ltr. engine including filter. I's called Triax Marine Ultra, is fully synthetic and I saw it on Amazon...

    What type of thread?

I found out in the meantime. It's 3/8"-16

    What type of thread?

Does anybody know what type thread is on the eye bolt that goes on the end of an alignment tool. The female thread on the alignment tool is a little messed up, so it seems and I wanted to chase it, but I have no idea what tap to use. Is it metric or inch ??? Btw. I lost the eye bolt. If I hadn't...

    Proper positioning of U-joint bellow

Correct Lou! I will add this to my "things I learned the hard way" list

    Proper positioning of U-joint bellow

Ok, y'all. you made your point and I agree. OEM from now on when it comes to bellows for sure, but I already installed this new AM one and I will see if it lasts. The biggest PITA was positioning and reaching the clamps on both ends and I do have a box full of trick tools. Since the bellow was...

    Proper positioning of U-joint bellow

If the OEM bellows were made in the USA I would hope that they last at least 8 - 10 years. But with most stuff being made in China or somewhere else I wonder how much better the OEM parts really are, but 18 years that is incredible. You did have a good bellow there for sure! I did buy a more...

    Proper positioning of U-joint bellow

Wow, this bellow was installed exactly 3 years ago and maybe has seen 100 hours of time in the water. Late last summer I noticed water in the bilge and I observed it coming thru the drive shaft tunnel, knowing I had a bellow problem. At first I suspected a faulty or loose clamp or it may have...

    Boat Trailer Tail Lights

I made it easy on myself and I had my brother come over with his Chevy truck and we tested the trailer on his truck and everything works like it is supposed to, which eliminates any problems with the wiring on my trailer. Then I did some more testing and sure enough I have no voltage on the...

    Boat Trailer Tail Lights

I installed new LED tail lights on my trailer and I am pretty sure that the wiring was done right and I am also pretty sure that the problem is with the source, a 2004 Chevy Tahoe with factory towing package. Here is what happens: It does not matter whether the trailer is hooked up to the tow...

Very difficult to shift into Neutral

Yes Lou, when I get my mercarb rebuild kit I will give this carb the treatment. All new parts, O-rings, gaskets and seals and I am sure these problems will be solved. A small hick up compared to the whole project. Even though stuff like that is annoying, it's also challenging and fulfilling when...
