1976 i6 165 mercruiser.
I last used the boat 2 years ago and have finally fixed the hydraulics. Do I need to remove the drive to replace the impeller? I am familiar with engines and the like, but have never replaced the impeller.
165 i6 from 1976. I noticed the clear tube from the carb to the fule pump is off and has shrunk to the point it no longer reaches the carb. I am guessing this is a unburned gas/vapor return to the pump.

I am very cautious about overtightening the hydraulic line into the trim pump and thought I had it tight, but I am getting fluid leaking past the threads on the connection in the dogbone (the high pressure line).

I6 from 1975. FInally got the pump off and tagged/docmented wires. Should this have come off by two bolts that hold the bracket on or the four bolts that hold the pump onto the bracket? When i tried the two screws for the bracket they spun the whole bolt. Are these the ones you need to...

I thought it was the line, but after futher inspection, the trim pump is leaking right next to were the hydraulic line connects at the bottom. THis is a a 1976 165 i6 boat with a square pump on the drivers side of the engine.
Is there a rebuild kit for these? or a schematic? ziggy?
I just got off the phone with the boat mechanic who is the only person who has serviced our boat besides me and checked the maintanence records. The last impeller change was 1996!!

I take my boat out 3-4 times a year. Pardon the expression but it is a POS but still runs great and I have a blast with it. I only carry comprehensive and only need to cover the boat when it is trailered or in the water. Other than that I dont care what happens to it.

Is it just me, or is it just not that smart to be 35 miles offshore with such a small boat. I have a 20 ft boat and would not even think of that. I would like to see how the boat was equipped. It sounds like the boat flipped unexpectedly, hence no radio call.
