    Cleaning a rusted out Thermostat ?

    So I pulled the head gasket cover off my '87 25 HP Evinrude to get to the thermostat (I believe this is the only way) and found the thermostat all rusted out and a ton of corrosion on the inside of the head gasket cover. What is the best way to clean everything out? thanks
