I tried to upload the video directly to the post, it is telling me the upload file is too big. Here is the YouTube link, I am not monetized, hopefully this is acceptable, and works.
I have the same bluefin s170, but mine is a 1986. I replaced my transom 2 years ago. I am no expert, that was the first transom I replaced. I can answer your questions with the way I replaced mine and how it worked for me.
I glued the 2 pieces of plywood together and cut the left and right...
Originally I was just going to replace the plywood transom on my boat, as I started taking it apart, I realized everything was rotted, and some mice had been living under my floor. I gutted the whole boat. My plan is to redo the interior of the boat, I am fine with what the exterior looks...
I have a 1980 80hp Mercury that I have rebuilt. I have been running the motor trying to link and sync and getting the carbs adjusted. The first three times a ran the motor in a tub, after I finished there was a black ring in the tub from unburnt fuel I'm guessing. The last time I ran it on...
I have a new to me 1980 mercury 80hp ser# 5773499. The tilt and trim was not hooked up when I bought the motor. When I hooked up the tilt and trim, i found out that the motor didnt work, cause it was all rusted inside. I removed the motor and the top of the reservoir and replaced it with a...
I have been rebuilding a 1980 80 hp 4 cylinder Merc. Serial #5773499. I bought it used. Low compression on cylinder 3. The previous owner was able to start the motor when I went to pick it up. A lot of the wiring was corroded and exposed. I could see sparks all over the motor from exposed...
Re: merc 80 hp 1980 ss prop stuck on shaft
finally got the prop off. It appears that the hub is pressed into the prop through the side of the prop closest to the prop nut. I don't see how the prop could ever be pulled off of the hub without removing the prop from the shaft first.
Re: merc 80 hp 1980 ss prop stuck on shaft
I am thinking that this prop uses sometype of hub kit where the hub is removed from the prop thru the front of the prop. I think the aft drive washer is what is stuck to the prop shaft. Since I did not put this prop on, i am not sure of what it looks...
I bought a used 1980 80hp merc. I cannot get the prop off. I have been soaking it with pb blaster, and using a modified wheel puller with chain and hooks around the blades. Today I bought a hydraulic gear puller from harbor freight, hooked it up to the chains, started pumping the handle and...
I have a 1972 50 hp johnson, model 50esl72, on a 1987 17' blue fin s170. I bought the boat 2 years ago. Right after I bought the boat I saw the same engine for sale on craigslist for parts, it had a burnt piston, but I bought it for parts. A few weeks ago I was checking my compression on my...
Re: 73 johnson 85hp green gelish fluid coming from under flywheel
I have the same issue with my stator, now I know it was caused by blown rectifier. Is this what you mean by "exposed coils"
I was doing a spark test today on my 72 johnson 50 hp electric start. I hooked the tester up and then had my son work the starter while I would check to see if the spark would jump 7/16 gap. Top cylinder tested good. When my son turned the key so we could test bottom cylinder, the top nut on...
I did a compression check yesterday. Top cylinder 128#, bottom 130#. After reading posts about compression checks I decided to check again with engine warmed up. Couldnt get tester to thread in top cylinder so I checked bottom, bottom cylinder 140#. Then I notice the reason I cant thread...
I would like to add a tach onto my 72 johnson 50 hp electric start. It seems that there are a lot of tachs to choose from and they range in price. Can someone tell me if I need a certain type of tach for my engine?
i have a power tilt on my outboard. the model # on the pump is 105519, and the number stamped on the motor casing is etf 4003. it is a single cylinder lift, just for tilting the motor. I wanted to get some parts and at one time i remember seeing a schematic breakdown of the motor and pump, i...
