So I am a marine diesel mechanic for a living the shop I work at has lots of things that will help me keep costs down tools supplies etc plus we have a really good fiberglass/finish guy. The boat is just another project for me, and if I bought another one I'd probably still go down the same road...
I thought the same thing about the point of entry for water intrusion being the screws but didn't consider how it rode on the trailer adding stress, will now be taking a look at that too.
My plan with this has always been to take it all the way down to the stringers, I just wasn't hoping so...
Well I got the carb linkages evened out and adjusted idle and my primary and secondary pickups again. Definitely seems to start and run smoother.
I went out Sunday for another sea trial to check what rpms I'm making. Had the trim pin set a bit higher than last time, ended up seeing about 4300...
Just picked up a Sierra Amega 7K tach from West marine and wired it up per the instructions came with a chart about all outboards and how many poles each alternator has, super easy. I now have a working tach that may need slight calibration once I compare it to my phototach, but maybe not...
It is an Automotive Bosch set to 8cyl. I read on another thread that the thunderbolt/lightning energizer need a tach that has the switch for the number of poles of the Alternator and that the automotive ones arent for 2 stroke. I did get a chance to use the digital tach and confirm that it reads...
OK so I have currently a random aftermarket tach that came from some automotive project I've done. I believe I tried to wire it to to the signal of the ignition and remember not having any luck, so then I wired it to the rectifier that goes back to the Alternator signal and it came alive. But...
4800-5300 thank you Jimbo! I have a photo tach that I will use to compare the helm tach and the timing light tach next. Hopefully I can make some sense of things. I read on a tag on the the engine mercury wants you to use only a quicksilver tach with lightning energizer ignition, anyone know...
Really excited I got her out on the water this weekend finally. Previously I had one failed sea trial attempt, splashed the boat fired her up and she would die once in gear. Took her home went thru the carbs and got her running better, adjusted some things as far as idle and carb pickups, also...
Thank you jimbo. The search is over! Cost me a few shillings but hopefully I can sell my complete 50hp and 6cyl lower to make up for it...I can't believe I found a new old stock complete lower unit and from what seems like a reliable seller! With a 6 month warranty! Thank you to everyone who's...
The transom measure 20" so looks like short shaft wouldn't put the cavitation plate below the hull so thats out of the question.
I likely won't go this route but I'm curious if anyone knows, would my driveshaft housing from my 650 bolt up to an 1150? and would my exhaust and water tube and...
Thank you everyone for all the help.
I got the gearcase disassembled minus the reverse lock. I decided to go ahead and look for all new gears and do it right...
...so I went ahead and ordered NOS gears, bearing carrier, and seals from a 650 diagram I found online, they showed up and are...
I don't see any numbers on the outside, but it has definitely been re painted so who knows...I have a serial# the seller gave me, and he had it listed as a 1966-78 4cyl. Inline 65/80/85hp. The serial is 2804236, which i looked up and believe to be 1970?
