    Wiring a 12v TM battery

I am installing a new TM battery and came across a strange setup. I know this should be easy but the current setup is abit confusing. I have 3 large wires going back to my current 12v battery. There are 2 red wires that are exactly the same (no yellow or orange or striped) that connect to the...

    1987 88hp evinrude v4 crossflow

I have a 1987 88hp evinrude v4 crossflow and the manual says gap the QL77JC4 plugs to .040. All of the newer references state to gap them at .030. I think I will split the difference and go .035 like Pat2009.

    Rough running Evinrude V90

That's how mine runs on muffs in the driveway. It runs much better on the lake. If it starts good, it must be a pretty minor issue. Normally if anything is off a bit, they normally do not start very well. At least that's what I have noticed.

    primer solenoid leaking

UPDATE; Replaced parts with OEM and leak is fixed. Aftermarket parts were loose and allowed fuel to leak. Lesson learned, pay more for OEM and have less problems.

    primer solenoid leaking

My original primer solenoid valve (red valve) developed a crack. I put in a replacement that was an aftermarket brand. It worked for a couple months but, now gas gurgles up through the red valve when I push the key in to start. The engine starts and runs fine. I just don't like fuel spilling out...

    steering cable?

I have an old boat from the mid 80's. It has rack and pinion steering. I want to remove cable to try to get some oil into it. There is not enough room to remove it from the tilt tube, due to the side of boat and I do not want to remove the engine. Does anyone know if the cable can be removed...

    tilt tube ?

I am not removing tilt tube, just need to get the port side nut off so I can lube my steering cable. The steering cable is to long to get out of tilt tube without removing engine. The starboard nut is loose, but port side seems frozen and tube just spins. I do not have the tools and support to...

    tilt tube ?

Does anyone know how to get the nuts off the ends off the tilt tube om an Evinrude v4? They are 1-1/4 inch or 32mm. When I try to get them loose the entire tube just spins. There is no way I could find to hold the tube because the ends are threaded, don't want to mess up the threads. Does this...

    Electrical problem

Found it, the tach had an extra hot wire on it that did not effect the old gauges, but was causing issues with the new ones. Also the power switch on the helm was shorted and the new switch did not come with a diagram and the pins were completely different so that was trial and error. Back to...

    Electrical problem

Thank you Crosbyman, I did install new gauges but didn't change anything just took the same wire off old ones and put onto new ones. I am right to assume there should be no power going past the ignition switch when the key is off? I am going to double check everything today. Hope I can find...

    Electrical problem

When I connect my battery, everything is powered at the helm, lights and gauges, even though key is off and power switch at helm is off. I do not think it is the power switch at the helm, because I removed it and everything is still on. I will try a new power switch but, Any other ideas ...

    tachometer?

Thank you FR! The knowledge shared on here is very valuable. I ordered the correct bolts to put the rectifier back on the block and hopefully have a working tach. If not, I will test the rectifier and replace if necessary.

    tachometer?

I am trying to get my tachometer running on my 88hp evinrude V4. I bought the boat several years ago and the tach has never worked. It now has power and the needle moves slightly when powered up. I tested the signal wire and it has continuity. I noticed my rectifier is not mounted to the engine...

Sorry, it is a 1987 Evinrude 88hp v4 model E88MSLCUS. The control box is a flush mount, black with a single lever. I will see if I can get a picture for you. Thank you.
