I think in this case it was more of just a backup so over the years of the rear end flexing around a small gap wont open up anywhere along that seam. Then every time you fall off plane it would take on a bit of water. So for a boat like this I would just put back 1 layer of heavy chop strand and...
Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure gaskets, floats and all the rest will be the same as yours in a 25 hp kit. But jets will change sizes. Can you scrounge around for a parts listing for your motor? Sometimes it takes a while to dig them up but I've almost always found one for free somewhere on...
It's not too hard once your in there. It's still the two individual pices of the cap and hull. Just with 1 or 2 layers of cloth glassed on it. Eye up where you think the seam is and mark it out with a sharpie. Then go in there with a thin cutting disk and just slice shallow through the cloth but...
Start out at the props on them. Are they identical? Either of them bent or damaged? There's no way the 9.9 could be reving higher than the 15 at a slower top speed if they have the same prop. Unless it's set up different on the transom and there's more prop slip with the 9.9.
60s narrow barrel back style tinners go like hell too. And kinda stable. I think the wind just isint as big of a factor from the low profile. All attach a pick of mine that has seen well in to the 40s... theoretically... I can't exactly advocate for fast tinners since their the one boat that has...
Well if it's like that then leave it. My memory of one I had for a short time on a tri hull was that it was impossible to see over the transom. You physically had to stand up and walk back there to see. But it had a tall transom and was a big boat. If you can see water pumping from the driver's...
And yeh, whatever fiber washers they used for gland packing on the needles of these carbs all seemed to break down. Causes a air leak and the motor to not want to idle or tune off the needles. I wouldn't think that would cause your issue, but might be an issue still. Oddly enough a coleman...
The fact that it still does it with either carb and all this work makes me still think spark. I've probably had 10 or more motors of the same omc design over the years and they are really deciving on 1 cyl. They sound just bogged down, not like half the motor isint running. Points are truly...
There's a tonne of forms on here and the internet about adding a "pee hole" or "tell tale" to these older motors that never had them. Basically finding a spot in a water jacket, drilling and tapping it for a little pip thread nipple and running a little 1/8 I'd hose off it out the bottom of the...
That's a good point. You absolutely can do exactly that in ontario no problem. Maybe just lazy and he towed with a random plate he had? Maybe just stolen and he was too scared to go try himself. Only way to find out is to find a Vin on it and run its abstract.
All add that my tinner does about 30 with a 9.9 and just shy of 40 with my 18. So that follows the 30% rule close enough. Even tho I basically only drive it around just on plane, both motors would perform the same there but I still use the 18. Once you load it up heavy with gear then you really...
4 mph might not be too far off. Speed and power are not exactly linear. I think the rule is close to double the power for 30% more speed. There's also the question of what prop pitch there is between the two motors. The 15 should have more get up and go in it. I think in those years both motors...
I wonder if your on to something there. Maybe the lower end is worn out and they were trying to add some preload. It's just a set of 90 degree bevel gears in there right? Anyway all put it back together without them and see. At least I have a known good lower end on my other motor.
Nothing to burn out. And as long as your not getting it too hot it should be OK. But a general rule of thumb is to never red line a totaly unloaded motor. They tend not to like it too much. But I always blew mine out with a few gental revs, like 15 seconds of running. And hey the top end only...
