    Is my steering legal?

    I was in a marine store today, we got to talking about my '71 MFG Carefree. The store owner told me the stock cable steering may be illegal depending on the HP. Has anyone heard of this? Is this true? If so, at what HP would the factory cable steering become illegal? Thanks, Salty

    Steering ?

    I recently got a '71 MFG Carefree with a 33hp Evinrude Ski Twin. I was at a local marine shop today and was informed that the cable steering is not legal after a certain hp. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so up to what HP is cable steering legal? Thanks Salty

    Hi folks; I just recently bought a 71 MFG Carefree with a '68 Evinrude 33 Ski Twin. As part of my way of doing things I copied down the 'model #' off the ID plate, 33853M. In my online searches for manuals/info/etc is 33853M and 33853R. I would like to know what the 'M' & 'R', stand for...
