I had water in my lower unit so I did all the seals and a new impeller and water pump kit.
Took her out on the water and it kept jumping out of gear into neutral while accelerating.
Everything i had read points to worn gears but I thought they looked good but I also didnt examine every inch...
I have an 18hp evinrude from 1973. I just redid all the seals on the gear case and put a waterpump kit in it.
Put it all back together and filled with new gear lube. Dropped her in a barrel and she started second pull.
It ran really nice in fwd/neutral/reverse. it stalled out in slow on...
Ok well I found out where the needle bearings were from. the drive shaft bearing in the upper part of the lower unit...:D
it's on a 1973 18hp evinrude model 18304A
But there is a brass seal and a rubber bushing on top of that bearing. In my manual it says i need a bearing puller special tool...
