1992 Evinrude 90 HP
I had to pull the lower unit to replace the seals, and water pump. I put the lower unit back on, and adjusted the shift cables per the Joe Reeves method. note: The shift rod was much higher than spec when I pulled the LU. I put it back on per spec height. Before...
1992 Evinrude V4 90 HP
124 pounds of compression exactly on all 4 cylinders, and a good stream from tell tale, VRO bypassed, Champion plugs:
Cylinder #1 was running hotter than it should. I removed the bypass valves and springs, but left the thermostats in place. It runs much cooler now...
I have the official repair manual, and the parts book too. Neither book specifies the exact size of the vacuum hose. It does give the part number though. Anyone know what the size is, and where can I get it online? Neither Nappa, Advance, or the local Yamaha dealer had anything comparable...
Does anyone know the correct size Heli Coil kit that I need for repairing the threads on the block that relate to the long bolt that goes on the front of the starter?
Thanks,

rebuilt powerhead, new starter, and brand new Wal-Mart branded marine starting battery (guessing 500 CCA)...... The motor turns over OK after a full battery charge for the first couple of attempts, and then just doesn't seem to have the power to get the thing to spin fast enough to fire. I...
...... one burned/molten piston -- some damage to that cylinder head -- very little damage to cylinder....115, 115, 115, and 86 on the bad guy
I could likely rebuild it myself with the tools I already have, and my manuals to save some money, but I have never rebuilt an engine. What I am really...
I am considering buying a rebuilt power head for my 1992 Evinrude VRO V4 90 hp, but I have found a decent deal on a 1990 Johnson VRO V4 90 hp complete outboard. Are they 100% the same motors?
Thanks,
Chris
I am wondering if this is possible? Also, could a leaking head gasket only affect the compression on one cylinder?
115 lbs on 3 of 4 cyclinders -- went from 80 to 85 lbs on the bad cylinder after a decarb on muffs.
waiting on gasket and manual to be delivered before I pull the head....might...
I finally checked the spark and compression myself. The good news is that I have great spark, and great compression on 3 of 4 cylinders. The bad news is obviously that I have weak compression on 1 cyclinder.
*around 115 on 3 good cylinders -- 80 on the not so good cyclinder*
The previous...
I don't have a manual yet as I just purchased the boat (will be ordering one soon). Does anyone know what I should torque the head bolts to?
Thanks,

Hello to all, and great forum! I have been reading/searching some before posting -- wealth of info here!
I have a 1992 Evinrude 90HP VRO. The motor will idle all day long, and not skip a beat if it is on trailer using the muffs. The motor runs super in the water at faster than idle speeds...
