What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

My stubbornness cost me some $$$. I couldn't do a compression test without buying a new starter so I got around to it today because after setting the timing it still ran rough. 90-32-30-90. Lesson learned and the silver lining is I don't have to spend anymore time and money chasing another...

    Fried wires to Regulator/Rectifier.

Still trying to get my 1998 Force 12 running like it should. Earlier while running the engine had run away, failing to stop even with the ignition key. I read in another thread it could be due to bad rectifier. I take a look at mine while killing time waiting for a timing light and...

Issue with throttle adjustment/cable....I think. Help would be appreciated.

I’m gonna tinker with it tomorrow. It’s taken me 2 weeks to get it running so I’m grateful for that. It started getting dark and the mosquitos are big enough to stand flat footed and sumo wrestle a turkey.

Issue with throttle adjustment/cable....I think. Help would be appreciated.

Finally got my engine fired up today. (1998 Force 120) with remote control mounted on center console. She seems to be idled pretty high, but that's not the worst of it. When I put her in forward gear and push the throttle forward the engine RPMs don't increase until the throttle is almost...

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

UPDATE! New thermostat and head gasket replaced today and cleaned ground terminal on engine block while I waited for them to come in. Turned ignition and she fired up first time. I'm assuming the major difference was moving the battery closer and possibly going to a larger wires to and from...

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

Reviewing older post I read it could be a bad ground so while I’m waiting on the head gasket I’m gonna clean up the engine block ground. Can’t hurt. Might help. Gasket should be in today. Will report progress if any.

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

If the rings are seized it shouldn’t turn over even with the gasket cover off right? It does. It will spin with the plugs out.

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

I actually considered it. Overall it looked real good but it had one spot on it about the size of a ball point pin head that looked like it was showing some corrosion with dimpling so I decided to just replace it while I had it off. I moved my new battery to within 6 feet of the starter and...

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

After sleeping on this I had moved my battery to the front of the boat and bought a cheap 8 gauge battery extension cable off Amazon to do so. I butt spliced the ends of the new cable to the old with a quality butt splice lug. The move extended the distance of the battery from the starter/...

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

I pulled the lower unit just to rule that out. It still won't spin the flywheel with the lower off. Also pulled the head gasket. No scoring, pitting, rust. Nothing out of the ordinary. Still hoping someone can lob some suggestions.

What would make a flywheel hard to spin? Starter won't spin it.

Recently purchased a 1998 Force 120 hp as part of a package deal. Did NOT test it before purchase as the boat alone was worth the asking price, but seller assured me the motor had no issues. Upon attempting to crank it the first time the starter would engage the flywheel but not spin it...
