Anyone know what kind of caulking sticks to nautolex? I want to put some small beads under the aluminum hatch frames. I know I can’t keep the hatches 100% watertight, I’m just trying to keep water away from where the screws go through the nautolex and into the plywood below
Thanks, yes, I am doing the OTF preservative (old timers formula) and spar varnish on the underside. Full bedding of nautolex glue on top.
I also smear 5200 along the cut end of the ply, especially if there are any voids exposed.
After such a long, multi-mothballed project, I really want...
Hey guys, starting to plan the hatch lids for the front section and rod locker. Budget is tight, I’m using nautolex clad plywood opposed to formed aluminum for the lids. The opening in the bench will have an aluminum perimeter frame that is screwed down. (See pic). These hatches will not be...
Thanks, I hope it wasn’t a dumb idea. I have one front and back. This boat sits more level with the front troller, 2 batts and an anchor up front. Because the hull can hold a lot of water in the front with heavy rains or a swamping, I wanted to pump water from wherever it collects in unpredicted...
Ok so the stainless wheel gets the final nod!
Spent some time working on the front bow bench. I didn’t like the too-small sized aluminum upstand support I made, so while I’m waiting to make another, I cobbled one up in scrap plywood in order to do a mock up. The top panels have been made to...
What are you using for a TIG welder? brand, model.
using AC high freq., right?
All Material has to be super clean, filler rod included. Stainless brush for cleaning.
How many amps & what size tungsten?
Using pure argon?
Thanks guys, going with the stainless wheel.
Anyone do something different with the side panels? I’m about to start mine. I don’t like the unfinished area under the helm. I understand why they stop short, and are mitred on a slight angle (to avoid at curve of the bow).
I’d like to close this...
Finally got some time to pick away at this project again. Still struggling from ongoing health setbacks, but trucking through it. The positive of it is that it has afforded me time to play in the shop, a luxury I haven had for some time.
I finished building and cladding the helm fronts and...
