    "great stuff" foam filler. thoughts?

well i came across this product and it's polyurethane, closed cell, and water resistant. is there a reason not to use this?can't really find anywhere that it's ok for marine applications. it's cheap, plenty on hand at lowes or walmart. i can't see a downside.

    economic rubrail

we'll i ripped my old rubrail off, it was in pretty sorry shape. the aluminum strip was missing in a long section, and pretty well dented up and dinged all around. i've been brainstorming and looking up prices for new ones -- 250-300$$ for most of the kits is just absurd. so i did some research...

should i settle for lower quality wood?

so i've been searching all around my area (southeastern OH). no one anywhere close carries marine ply and those that said they would order it either won't have it in for 4 - 6 weeks, or want an excessive amount of money for it. 100+ $$ per sheet is just out of my budget. so i decided to settle...

foam filling and below deck drainage system theorycrafting

so i've been thinking (way too much time thinking) about the design of my drainage system and the foam i'm gonna put under my deck in my bowrider restore. I'll start off with the foam. i had an interesting idea to put some sort of drainable type material on the bottom. think crushed up packing...

any reason to remove excess old fiberglass while grinding your hull?

my plan was to leave the excess there and just glass it in as if it was the hull. i have already ground away all the glass that was in the channel for the new stringers and a little extra to make sure nothing gets in the way of the new stringers. is there a reason to remove this or am i making...

prepping stringers and deck with cheap polyurethane-- bad idea?

i ordered all my glass and such and i'm about to begin the construction of my deck and stringers. i plan on coating all the wood before placing it with 2 coats of polyurethane. my plan is to buy just regular polyurethane from lowes and seal the wood. then use my polyurethane resin and such for...

    drainage system for stingers--input welcome

i originally thought that putting a drainage system in for the outside stringers would be a good idea. and now i'm second guessing myself. i was thinking that if it had a drainage system originally, then it would never get to the point of rot that i'm at now. but on the other hand, if the P/O...

cap removal.. to do or not to do...

With my restoration i'm at the point of digging out the last of the stringers. i have realized that the front end stringers are indeed far up under the cap and i can't quite get them out without removing the cap. i've read horror stories and been warned to be careful about removing the cap as...

30 - day restoration project - baretta overhaul

[EDITED] I would just like to clarify the 30-day restoration title and what i'm actually trying to accomplish here. i bought this boat with roughly 30 days to work on it until i take my fishing trip. the plan is to have her water ready (new stringers, deck , and get the motor running, and maybe...

is it possible to repair this gas tank?

while ripping out the floor in my boat i decided to use the handy dandy chainsaw. i guess this is what happens when you don't really know what your doing... has anyone ever repaired one of these gas tanks? it appears to be made out of some heavy duty plastic material. i looked around for a...

    89 baretta 19' restoration project

I would first like to say thanx for the enormous amounts of information on this site. What an incredible resource for a novice such as myself to be able to use for restoring an old neglected boat. So I would like to contribute my own restoration project to the list. i recently purchased this...
