Four Stroke 150 molded fuel line

Hey Guys- The fuel line coming in to my 2016 FS150 broke over the weekend. It snapped on the engine side where the quick disconnect comes into the engine cowl. Looking at Mercury parts, this is a special molded piece of hose that runs from the quick disconnect entering the cowl to the low...

'87 3Cyl 50 is very smoky at idle

Hey Everyone- My '87 3Cyl 50 is really smoky at idle speeds. I just did a carb rebuild, including replacing the floats. I did a link n sync as well. Smoke seems fine at anything above idle, so I'm thinking I've got the idle mixture screws are set a little too rich. Once it is warmed up, I...

    Time for a new rectifier?

Hey Guys- My tachometer has stopped working and I've got 15V DC across my battery with the engine at idle. This jumps up to 16V at about 1500-200 RPM. Is it pretty safe to say it's time for a new rectifier? '87 50HP 3cyl 0B162136

Best place to adjust carbs - on the trailer at the ramp?

Hey Guys- I just finished a carb rebuild and I'm about to get on with the final adjustments. As you all know, the engine is supposed to be in the water and running in gear. How in the world am I supposed to reach around the back of the engine to where the carbs are? It seem like the best way to...

What to do with the starter solenoid when the air box is off?

Hey Guys- To do adjustments on my carbs, I need to pull the air box off of my 1987 50HP 3 cyl and then start the engine. The starter solenoid mounts to the top of the air box. It looks like it is grounded to the air box as well. What do you guys do? Thanks!

Trailer bunks: do they have to extend beyond the transom?

Hey Guys I want to put some trim tabs on my 15' Larson, but the bunks extend about 3" past the transom when the boat is all the way on the trailer. Is it OK to cut the bunks a little bit shorter so that they end just short of the transom? The trailer also has rollers under the keel. Thanks!

Engine water is very warm - new impeller kit, what next?

1987 50HP 3 cylinder 0B162136. This engine seems to be running on the warm side. The stream from the telltale is fairly strong, but it seems to be hotter than it should. At idle on the muffs, it's about the same temp as a hot shower. I can keep my hand there, but it's hot. At 2000 rpm on the...

    Timing Question - 21 or 34 degrees?

I am the new owner of a 1987 3 cylinder 50hp. (B162136) I am going to do Clams Canino's timing and sync setup, but I am stuck when I get to this part. I don't know if my engine is a direct charge or a plain vanilla crossover. Should I set my max advance to 21 or 34 degrees? "Timing Event Two -...

Help me ID this 3 cylinder 50?

Hey Everyone- I just bought an '87 Larson 15 footer with this Mercury 50. The serial number has been painted over, so I can't read it. Can you guys help me ID it? http://imgur.com/a/l91RG Thanks!

    1987 Classic 50 (3 cyl) non-stop beeping alarm

Hey Everyone- I just bought my first boat! It's a nicely redone '87 Larson DC-150 powered by an '87 Classic 50. At least, that is what I think it is. The serial number has been painted over and I can't read it. Can anyone verify that this is an '87 Classic 50? Motor Pictures...

Aluminum boats - How does the floor join to the hull at the edges?

First post! This is an amazing community. I feel ready to tackle some rebuild projects. But first I need to get a boat! I'm looking at old aluminum Starcrafts. It seems fairly common to replace the floor. I went and looked at an early '80s SS and the guy had just replaced the floor. He covered...
