The starboard side isn't loose, not sure about port because I can't get to it. I thought I had read somewhere that some people go in and tighten them. Good to know I shouldn't be touching them! Thanks.
Can the torque on the anode bolts on the bottom of the gimbal housing be checked without pulling the engine? 20-25 ft-lbs, right? I can access the starboard side fairly easily but the port side is behind the exhaust manifold. 3.0L mercruiser engine, alpha one gen 1 outdrive.
I've checked to try...
It's pricy, but having the right tool for the job makes a world of difference. This threaded bearing puller worked when a slide hammer wouldn't. That...
My gimbal bearing moves pretty freely without the tool touching the engine. I also put it in the freezer prior to install so it went in pretty smooth. I don't think mine is damaged.
Is there a way to tell if the rear motor mounts are still good? I returned the front motor mount to the previous position, whacked the alignment tool up and down to try to get it to fit in the coupler, and it still wouldn’t go in. When I look through the gimbal bearing, it appears that the most...
I did not. I will give that a try and come back with an update. Should I return the front motor mount to the original position (or as close as possible)?
I recently replaced the gimbal bearing on my 1989 galaxy I/O with a 3.0L Mercruiser and an alpha one gen 1 outdrive. I am currently trying to align the bearing with the engine coupler, but my alignment tool won’t touch the splines, it will only go in 1/2” into the coupler. I have lowered the...
