Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

Just an addendum to the trim pump motor issue. We took her out for a spin on the lake and despite that issue the boat performed beautifully. So the trim not staying locked in an upwards movement didn’t affect it. Backing up worked normally, forward had no problem as well so unless some major...

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

Good morning Dubs! A week has passed since I tried to push air out of the trim lines and other than a smoking connection nothing seemed to change however the drive was left in the up position and for a week or so it stayed up but this week it slowly lowered again, I can still lift it up manually...

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

When my drive is down liquid comes out of the reservoir, I can’t get anymore in. Put the fill screw back on everything works up and down but you can’t force the drive down …only lift it. There are no other leaks. Thanks for replying Dubs283 and Rick

Drive stays in position where set downwards and upwards…but…

Wherever the position of the drive is it can be manually lifted upwards but doesn’t move downward if you try to push it down. This isn’t normal obviously so does anyone have an idea of what might be at play here. I’ve bled the lines, there are no leaks anywhere, and the motor is working...

    Trim pump problem

There are no leaks anywhere and I will see once again if air is the lines. Thanks for the information on seal kits. I will definitely look into that.

    My stern drive

Thanks for responding Chris. I was hoping that if I identify the stern drive I’ll be able to tap in on some sort of serial number and/or model number to get a new stern drive trim pump or a valve gasket O ring kit. Getting an engine serial number has proven fruitless for me. The plate I found...

    My stern drive

Can anyone identify this model of Mercruiser stern drive. I’m thinking it’s pre Alpha.

    Trim pump problem

I believe there may be an O ring issue in the trim pump valve assembly as my stern drive doesn’t stay up for long and drops overnight. I can manually lift the drive about halfway and then it stops. I ruled out air in the line as I did a complete bleed last year before storage. The motor works...

    old engine serial numbers

Thanks again Chris for replying. I wholeheartedly agree everything has it’s time including humans we grow old and it’s one thing after another. The first major engine problem will see her out to pasture....in the meantime I am still enjoying her as my family vacations revolved around this...

    old engine serial numbers

Thanks Bondo for the info. Getting harder to get parts especially when marinas can’t be bothered to investigate a bit.

    old engine serial numbers

I own a 1975 Fiberform Bermuda Flyer with a 351cu 233hp 2 barrel Ford Cleveland Mercruiser that for a long time the serial number eluded me until I found this plate. It’s a serial number of some sort but is it an engine number? If anyone out there has a similar boat to mine can you let me know...

    old engine serial numbers

1975 233hp 351cu Ford Mercruiser (Cleveland) 2 barrel carburetor that has a serial number that is no longer usable when ordering. i found a tiny plate that had a serial number on it but it was useless for ordering parts. is there a way to get serial numbers that may work? thanks to all who reply.
