Found a boat for sale locally. It's very cheap and the catch is that it overheats. The engine is a 1979 mercruiser 470. I have the same engine in my 1987 (except i think mercruiser called it the "165" for this year). I don't have any over heating problems because whoever owned my boat before me...
last boating season I had carb issues. Long story short the marine mech. i took it to eneded up giving me a completely rebuilt carb. Get the boat on the water and carb runs nice except i now have a mis-fire that wasn't there. OK, i figure its ignition since the old carb with problems probably...
not your typical misfire...or so i think.
engine ran fine when I first go the boat except for a crappy carb. Turns out the carb was beyone rebuilding capabilites and I had a new one installed by a mechanic. I get the boat back and head out on the water to find I have an engine mis, most...
1987 mercruiser 165 inline 4 (3.7 liter, the newer design of the old 470) with mercarb 2bbl carburetor.
I've been having one problem after the next. Refreshed the carb and set the float level to what the instructions said it should be and had the motor running ok. I Eventually figured out i had...
1987 stingray w/ Mercruise 165 4cyl. (similar to merc 470). 2bbl mercarb and alpha one outdrive.
I rebuilt the carb and started getting her tuned up and for the life of me it seems as if I can't get it to run. Its running way too rich so I pulled the carb checked the float measurements again...
I think i have fuel pump issues. :-(
surprisingly it works, but i think she's got an oil breach...i see oil or fuel around the screws and the sight glass is dirty. Can I repair this (with a kit) or do I need to just buy a new one?
Thanks!
mystery oil leak on a 1987 merc (3.7 L). thought to be the valve cover gasket however I glued that with silicone to seal it (i know, bad choice...) but its not leaking from there and looks like it could be coming from the intake however the intake has no oil passages....there's a plate right...
merc. 165 (460 ford block) on an '87 sintgray.
noticed that Im leaking oil and I thought it was the valve cover. After replacing the valve cover gasket and siliconeing it down, im still leaking oil but even worse. Its leaking from the intake manifold somewhere. Has anyone heard of this? I know...
Mercruiser (quicksilver) shifter on an 87 mercruiser 165. The neutral button won't push in no matter what I do. Is this something that I can fix or do I just buy a new one? What do I buy if so?
thanks!!!
mercruiser 470....having trouble with my starting motor over heating when then engine is running. If I shut the motor off after driving for a while I can't restart the engine. It feels as if the starter is trying to draw more current than the battery can supply and I KNOW the battery is ok. I...
engine: mercruiser 470, 2bbl carb.
how much fuel is suppose to spill back into the carburetor from the fuel pump overflow while the motor is running at idle?
i cracked my valve cover. where can I get a new or replacement? I can get a ford valve cover however it doesn't have the breather port...
I have a mystery oil leak (on my merc 470) that looks like its coming from the valve cover however I JUST replaced the valve cover gasket and its still leaking. The oil is "pooling" up on the lip of the intake manifold and running down the carburetor side of the block. Im completely new to this...
Hi Folks! Im a newbie. New to the boating world but not so new to mechanical toys ;)
The boat I got is a Stingray with a 470 mercruiser and Alpha one outdrive. The boat hasn't been in the water yet this season and my maiden voyage is this saturday (at least that's my goal). I finally got the...
