I've encountered another (minor) problem, I hope. My Mercury manual tells me to tap the end caps from the crank end bearings. Top and bottom caps. Fortunately the top bearing cap did come off relatively easily but the bottom one is reluctant to budge. Any ideas/suggestions ?

Sorry if this question has been asked but I was wondering how you can tell the engine size on a Mercury I looked up my engine serial number to find out the year on storesonline...dot...com but my serial number could apply to a 50hp or 60hp and wondered how you can tell for sure.
