water pump update ...

Just wanted to thank those who gave detailed info on how to perform the job of replacing the water pump on my 115 Yammy. First time to crack open the lower is a bit unnerving - went real smooth though. I don't know whether it was the new water pump or simultaneously adjusting the pilots to 5/8...

    Yamaha parts support ...

Wondering how long and how well Yamaha supports their products (especially on limited run models) via parts years down the road? Reason i ask is that the ('98) B115W i own looks like it was only in production for two years. Power head and many of the parts come from the 6N6 or 6E5 groups and...

    more prop?

Have an 18' flats boat with V bow which tapers to a rather flat bottom in the back with a tunnel. Gulf coast is a bit like Whaler/McKee Craft with the swept bow. Running a 115hp with jackplate and it currently has a 4-blade 16x13 that looks like it's been re-worked a bit. I measured across...

    impeller replacement part 2

Trying to button up the lower/impeller replacement job ('98 yamaha 115) and i wanted to know what needs to be greased or have adhesive used. The Clymer manual i have indicates to grease the metal insert cup and use 3-M weather strip adhesive on the big o-ring to keep it in place. Wondering...

    drive shaft & oil?

Pulled the lower off ('98 yammy 115 hp) to replace the water pump and when I did there was a small amount of oil that came out from above- dripped down drive shaft. Just wondering if this is normal or a sign of a bad seal that needs to be replaced?

Thx - spete

    impeller replacement

Hello Rodbolt - Looking to replace the impeller on my '98 yammy 115 this weekend and wanted to see if i could get a complete list of parts/gaskets/sealants/misc. that will be needed to complete the job - just trying to avoid a second trip to get the forgotten part (closest Yammy dealer 40 miles...

    Yammy plugs ... NGK ... Others ...

Wondering if anyone has had good results with plugs other than the NGK spec'd by Yamaha for their motors. At least my motor calls for NGK. Are there Denso equivilents or Champion, Bosch? Any experience with different brands ... would like to hear. Also, my plugs have the crush type washer...

To retorque ... or not retorque

I have a 115 hp motor that is 5 years old and I am questioning whether it is a good idea to go through your motor and retorque all the bolts as general maintenence. Seems like over time things would work loose, but maybe that's why you torque equally in the first place so bolts never work...

    Spark plug check ...

Have a question regarding the number of times you can check/remove your spark plugs before the washer is usless. I like to keep a close eye on what's happening inside the cylinders and look at plugs quite a bit - the only problem i find is that the NGK plug washer gets crushed down and i begin...

    115 hp. '98 in-shore B115TR ... questions

    4 questions:

Wondering how one tells wether or not a cylinder is taking on water from an internal source, bad gasket, etc. From what I've read you can look at the plugs and if you find one that looks lean/dry that could indicate a problem- I'm concerned that my boat has been idling...

    racor mounting ..

I have a quick question on mounting a Racor filter/separator. I've heard not to mount inside the bilge near batteries yet this seems like the only available spot on my c/c bay boat. I have a small compartment in the back near the outboard motor that houses two batteries, Oil reservior and...

    riptide - vs- great white

Planning to get a trolling motor for my 18' c/c bay boat ... wondering which brand and model i should go with ? Heard good things about the minn kota, but most of the dealers i've spoken to carry the great white and stand by that? I like the looks of the Minn Kota better and it seems to be...

    jack plate/transom question ...

Wondering if I should be using a transom saver on my 115 motor if I'm using a jack plate setup. Motor seems solidly on the transom with no large noticible movement during transit. I guess large bumps/rail road tracks/etc could put more load on the motor/transom? Is the Transom saver necessary?

    nfb steering grease

just installed no Feedback Teleflex Safe-T II system and the instructions stated not to grease any part of the system that it's pre-greased. They way install. instructions read it also sounded like I should not add any additional grease to the tilt tube where the cable connects to the motor...

    prop/performance question

I have an 18 ft tunnel hull Gulf Coast bay fishing boat with a 115 hp motor. The hull is similar to a Boston Whaler/swept v-bow that flattens out towards the middle/aft of the hull. I currently have a 4-blade SS prop that's marked 16X13 TC. Boat has plenty of hole shot and not a great top...
