    I've a '83 Merc 7.5 serial #6297257. When I look for parts, am asked to spec the MODEL number. nothing on the shaft plate but the serial #. Apparently, the 7.5 '83 model numbers were 1007203, 223, 503,and 523. Can't find any #'s close anywhere on outside or inside of engine. Appreciate any...

    weight on transom
