This motor has never charged the battery since I've owned it. At some point I believe I tested and deemed the rectifier bad.. Just got a new one.. How can I be sure the charging system is working?
I've done quite a few repairs on this motor and feel like I have a pretty good understanding of where I've gotten to in my troubleshooting so I guess you'll need to trust me some.
I've isolated the problem to the stator/trigger or switchbox. Which leads me to my question..
I'm having a hard...
I have a crack at the top horizontal part of my transom. This boat is a 1979 procraft and frankly, its old.. Its given me some great summers and some horrible ones. It was given to me for free and I've done a bit of work on it specifically the motor. I have had it for 5 years and these cracks...
Having a problem finding the right size hose for the vent on my fuel tank.. The boat is a 1980 procraft and the hose was dry rotted. Its quite a bit larger than a 3/8 fuel hose. My question, which is probably a little foolish. Does this hose have to be rated for fuel? I would assume yes, but...
I concluded my rectifier was bad..

I had the same voltage not running and running at about 2500 rpm..

I purchased the radio shack full-wave bridge rectifier rated for 25amps.. I installed it and now when idled up to 2500 rpms I go from 12.6v to 13.4 volts.. Which seems...
Ok.. For 3 years I have been working on this motor. I have replaced 2 coils and the "switchbox". Last year it ran but had no power. After pulling out the plug in the bowl of the top carb I realized it was not getting gas to the top carb. I pulled the bowl off and the needle valve was stuck. I...
Trimmed all the way down my boat pulls so hard to the left that I am afraid if my hands slipped on off of the wheel that the boat would flip. I have adjusted the small fin above the prop, in both direction and it didn't seem to make a difference. When I trim my motor up while moving I can get...
Ok.. First, Mercury Force is just a Mercury motor right? Someone told me it wasn't really Mercury. Second, there is oil leaking slowly from I believe the lower unit.. I have a 1979 80HP Mercury that I just had to replace the water pump on, are the two lower units similar? Reason I ask is that...

I have a 15 foot procraft with a 80HP Mercury motor. At full speed the boat pulls very hard to the right, so much so that if I let go I would be worried about flipping.. Is there an adjustment on the motor to compensate? I don't know the name of the little fin on the lower unit, but it...
Ok.. I have had lots of problems getting to the point I am at.. But let me say its a great feeling to hear the motor run.. The only problem left is that I noticed when I started my jmotor for the first time I didn't see an water being spit out. I then dropped my lower unit and am in the process...
This may be preliminary, but..

I have one cylinder not firing on this 80HP merc. I thought it was the coil without doing any tests and it wasn't at all.. I replace the wiring for number 3 and 4 (3 is the on not firing).. Still nothing.. I know that the stator or trigger was replaced...
