I have a 50 hp Johnson 1997 and the other day as my tank neared half my engine started cutting out while at wot. I noticed that if I pumped the primer bulb then it would run fine for about 10 or 15 minutes then the bulb would get soft and i would have to pump it again. runs fine at off plane...
Ok ..I spun the hub on my prop. I was in deep water so i guess it was just getting old. Anyway..I cant get it off because it spins when I try to take the nut off the shaft when i am holding the prop. There is not much to hold on to at all on the end of the shaft. How do I get it off? :(...

As you can tell I dont know much about outboard motors are there any pins on this motor that i should know about..or anything else? I noticed a cotter pin on the prop. Do i need some of these things when i go out? Also what is the running temperature for this motor? My guage indicates 10 - 40...
what is the max operating temp for a 1997 johnson 50hp? My indicatorneedle ranges from 10-40 and it is slightly above 30 full throttle Is this a normal temperature?? what should it be at? :rolleyes:
I just purchased a boat with a 1997 50hp johnson motor. I was told that it is better to run the engine pre mixed as opposed to the oil injection that it has now. I heard that the oil pump can stop an cause a major engine problem. Is this common? Do you know if this engine has a warning...
