I wish there was a filter in the high pressure line that could be easily changed. I am worried about the new fuel cells having similar issues, though they might be fine. But I am also worried about additional connections that could leak!
Just wanted to say thanks for all your help. Managed to get the fuel rail off before wrapping the boat up for the winter. The only difficult thing was getting the injectors out - they were the originals and well painted in!
I bought my self an early Christmas gift, and tested the injectors as...
Yes they did. I called Monterey to inquire about access, and they suggested to cut the deck. Fortunately I am only 5' 8" and 160lbs so I can squish into some tight spaces. At age 61 the body does not like it.....
Great link. Left me with a question that might be a misunderstanding. How do the paint chips get past the screen on the high pressure pump? Is it simply too coarse to stop them?
Thank you
I can get the arrestor off, so should be good to go.
Good idea on compression check. Changed the plugs yesterday but forgot my compression gauge, but simple enough now that I finally found a decent spark plug socket that fits under my GLM manifolds.
Just wanted to follow up for anyone interested. Plugs looked fine, even after running on the rich side all season. Pics attached. Now thinking injectors might be suspect. Replacing plugs did not help situation.
My boat is a 2004, so I have dealt with this - basically changed fuel regulator (3x) and fuel cell. But wouldn't this also effect the injectors?? I do not know much about my injectors, besides being over 20 years old. The engines are 4.3GXI-E. I do not know if these injectors have screens...
I want to replace the fuel lines on my 4.3GXI-E's. They are 20 years old, and I do not know how long they truly last. Is Volvo Penta the only source for these lines?
I will not keep you in suspense, it was fuel pressure.
Early in this saga, I did check fuel pressure and injector leak down. Everything looked fine (55psi and no measurable leak down).
I am either senile, stupid or this somehow snuck by me.
Being a rather recent widower, I would rather be...
Spray water on the belt - if it quiets down, it is the belt. Clean pulleys and replace belt. Check tensioner - replace if weak. I am not sure what weak is...... so if replacing belt does not quiet it I would then try replacing tensioner.
