Any Additive To Protect My Engine From Fibreglass Damage?

I just purchased an old 1970 sportfish. The boat is equipped with a late 502cid Crusader. The boat also has built in fibreglass fuel tanks. Is there a fuel additive that will protect the engine from ethanol/fibreglass damage until I get a chance to replace the tanks? I've heard horror stories...

Hynautic Steering Leak-Will Sea Foam Help This?

I swear by Sea Foam for my engine. Now I developed a slight leak in my Hynautic steering ram. Sea Foam makes a hydraulic oil additive. Can it help or is a ram rebuild my only out? Stu

Question for Walker-What do the recirc valves do?

My 175 crossflow fouls plugs like mad. Engine hates to run slow. When the plugs load up I get a high speed miss. Change the plugs and it runs great again. Rebuilt power head, carbs, power packs. The recirc valves have been suggested. What do they do? Thanks. Stu

    175 VRO Plug Questions?

My 175 VRO crossflow doesn't like running slow. I have about a 10 minute idle to open water. I troll, and spend a lot of time at idle putting myself over a wreck. Anyway, the boat runs great with new plugs, but fouls them in one outing. I replaced the surface gap plugs with conventional plugs...

    Help with 175 crossflow-breaking up-Fixed Thanks!

Sorry for the long post. My 1986 Johnson 175 crossflow started giving me grief today. I took it out fishing, and while cruising along the engine suddenly started running very rough and started knocking. I removed the engine cover and it wasn't overheated. The engine refused to restart for quite...

    Am I hurting my engine?

I'm running a 175 Johnson crossflow on my center console. As fuel and powerheads are expensive, I've been running it very conservatively. I just made a 120 mile round trip, burned 55 gallons of fuel, and averaged about 22knots. I kept the engine at no more than 3200 rpm. My friend tells me I'm...

Boat Runs Lousy-Look For The Obvious!

My center console powered by a 175 VRO has been slowing down over the last week. Rough getting on the plane, lousy handling, pounding, slooow, lost 400 rpm's. I started to get some growth so I anchored it up in some shallow water, scrubbed the bottom and lower unit spotless, took it out. Worse...

Accordint To The Insurance Comp. My Boat Doesn't Exist!

I have an '86 Winner 1850 center console. According to the insurance company it can't be, cause they didn't make that boat till 89. I had to insure it as a Winner Tournament. I don't even know what a tournament is. Oh well.

    Anti-Siphon Valve Problem?

A friend replace his fuel lines with alcohol resistant ones, and at the same time replaced the priming bulb. At the dealers suggestion he replaced the fuel tank fitting with one with an anti-siphon valve. Now the engine, a 200 Merc, sucks the primer bulb flat, doesn't make rpm, runs hot. Pull...

    Got a "New" Winner

I have the 1850 center console. I love the boat, but wasn't too happy with the head sea pounding I was taking. I used the engine to trim the boat, as my trim tabs were inop. Well, I replaced tha tab pistons and took it out for a spin and I think I'm in love again. This is a boat that MUST have tabs!
