I'm finishing up my Johnson 18hp 1957 FD-11. When I go to put on the cover plate to the shift level connector, the screws thread in but don't tighten. They just keep spinning. What's the best way to fix this, (heli coil, go the the next screw size up, epoxy)? Wondering what other people have...
I tried gasket sealer on the screw treads and a good amount on the under side of the crew head. Let it sit over night and when I did a pressure test, it was leaking from the middle screw.
I have a 1957 fd-11 johnson lower keeps leaking from center screw hole. It looks as if the screw hole area isn't flat and I can't get anything small enough in there to try and flatten it. Has anyone ever used an o ring around the screw?
I have a 1957 fd-11 18hp Johnson that my son and I are working on. We rebuilt the lower and everytime we put the skeg back on and fill it with oil it leaks out of one of the middle screws. I've drained the oil and took the skeg off and resealed it with more seal compound and get the same...
Honestly, there's two weld marks on the one side. I was just thinking of replacing it so there were no imperfections on it. I didn't realize the two were a set.
