Yamaha 200. Anything I should know?

I found a deal on a boat with 2002 Yamaha V6 2-stroke outboard, model SX200TXRA (I think that's correct). It has 240 hours saltwater use. Before I drop the big bucks, I will sea trial it with the dealer and do a compression check. Are there other things I should check or ask or worry about...

OMC Cobra Hydraulic Ram Leak. Parts?

My 1993 OMC Cobra outdrive is leaking fluid out of one of the rams. Can this seal be replaced or am I looking at a whole new ram? I can't seem to find the seals listed anywhere. Thanks.

    Riser/manifold life versus engine life

I've got about twenty hours on my new motor ('94 boat) 4.3 OMC Cobra. With proper care, what kind of life expectancy is there on risers/manifolds? I'm running in salt water, on a mooring most of the time so I can't flush but once a month or so. Thanks.

    Different Transducer?

I bought a boat that has the mounting bracket and transducer for a Humminbird "Wide 3D" unit. The unit itself was missing but I found a "Wide One Hundred" which fits the mounting bracket perfectly. There's just one problem: the Wide One Hundred reads erratically and completely inaccurately...

Banged Up Prop, Removal in water?

OK, total newbie question. I'd like to know if I can fairly easily replace my prop while the boat is in the water. 20' Seaswirl, 4.3 OMC I/O tilt/trim. I have another prop on hand but the boat is on a mooring at the moment. I'm good with tools, motorcycles and machines but this is my first...

Any chance of damage? Impeller Question..

I pulled my boat out of the water with the engine idling. Dumb newbie move. The engine ran for about one minute, probably a bit less. The impeller is new--did I harm it? I went back to the house and ran the motor on muffs, everything seemed fine. Thanks.....

    Mooring Connection, total newbie question

OK, I think I have the configuration of the mooring anchor/chain figured out. What I'd like to know now is the exact attachment of the pendant to the boat. There's a cleat up on top and then the big eye bolt down on the prow which the trailer hook grabs. This seems like a much better spot for...

    Mooring Weight?

Hello; I have a 20' SeaSwirl, 8' beam, 4.3l I/O. I've been told that a 200lb mushroom anchor with appropriate bottom and top chain would be sufficient as a mooring. The mooring location will be in a bay that does get some good SW wind and at most 3-4 foot wind chop, no sea swell, mostly mud...

GPS plotter: with depth finder or without...?

I'm wondering if it's good to have a depth finder in addition to a GPS chartplotter. Also, do folks have recommendations on GPS plotter for recreational bay and ocean boaters like me? Thanks, JT

OMC (Oh My Cod) 4.3 Major Dilemma--water in oil

OK, I knew I'd have to put some money in this boat. Mechanic says compression is very good on all cylinders and it runs great, but small amount of water showed up in the oil. He thinks it's risers or manifolds but can't be sure without tear-down. He also says he can't be sure whether water...

Eureka! She Runs! (Muff Question from Newbie)

I had doubts about my new (used) '94 Seaswirl with the 4.3 OMC, but she actually fired up--on muffs--just fine. Forward and reverse seem to work, so I'm thrilled. I thought I might've bought a complete lemon. Maybe it's just a partial lemon! Anyway, is there a limit to running on muffs? I...

Raw Newbie Raw-water Question OMC I/O

I've gone and done it: yesterday I bought a boat. A boat, I might add, about which I know next to nothing. I have auto and motorcycle experience, but am I to understand that my OMC 4.3 V6 cools itself (hopefully) with water drawn directly from the impeller in the lower unit?? In my case...
