OK - funny story. I was so proud of myself for replacing the impeller and getting water circulating again. I put the boat in the water just now and it won't go into gear. I was off the trailer and floating. I put it in reverse and it wouldn't back up. I put it in forward and it wouldn't go...
I hope so too. Some of the larger pieces were up by the impeller. Many smaller pieces were down by the intake. I was glad to see they were going south.
I ordered an impeller yesterday and received it today. It's not a Yamaha. It was tough to slide onto the drive shaft and tough to get into the pump housing, but I got er done. This is what it looks like now. Is that spit supposed to be coming out the front?
OK. I've got two symptoms. No water from the tell tale and the very annoying alarm. I'm getting towed to the boat ramp tomorrow. I'll bring it home and drop the lower unit. We'll see what that impeller looks like. Thank y'all for the help. I guess I'm about to become an outboard mechanic.
#1 - Paddle or tow the boat to the ramp, put it on the trailer and bring it home.
#2 - remove the lower unit and look at the impeller.
?? - right?
thanks.
I'm learning from the internet stuff I didn't know. I hope I haven't ruined the motor. If the tell tale squirts water from between the motor and the lower unit, no - that's not happening. When it idles, there is a lot of water moving around the lower unit.
I don't know the service record. I...
I can add a couple things. I checked the oil and it seems clean and full. I'm not much of a mechanic and even less with boat motors. But I can usually do anything if there's a Youtube video.
Had the Crestline Fish Hawk 1650 SC in the garage all winter. Put it in the water yesterday. Was driving it to the dock and it started screaming a steady non-stop alarm-like noise. The motor also bogged down. Today, I putted around for 10 minutes - no noise. So I gassed it and it immediately...
I emptied the fuel from the filter into a clear glass. I don't see any separation, but the gas is more amber color than I expected. This is gas from last fall. I put Stabil in the tank and then filled it for the winter.
The boat ran great two years ago. Last year it started with this problem. It seemed to be only in the first 30 minutes or so, then ran fine. This year it seems to be somewhat worse. We usually start our sessions with a run around the lake. I would throttle up to 3000-3500. It runs - then it dogs...
