I went through this same issue trying to match up specs, none of the replacements I could find were confirmed to be correct. I ended up using the MSD #8222 with my TB5. Came recommended by a few different folks. Works great so far, and was cheaper than a mystery coil.
I've ran Pertonix ignitor kits in my old ford F100 and two older mercruiser V8s (228 and a 260), and personally I've never had issues. All motors started/ran instantly better after installing the kit & coil.
Like anything, I'm sure they have had their issues but personally I wouldn't hesitate...
Do you think your leaking a qt every 10 hours or burning? Do the 4.3's have the oil pressure sending unit in the back of the motor like the V8s? If so, maybe your leak and slightly off pressures are stemming from that.
Sorry to the moderators for posting on an old thread but I would provide an update on this for anyone in the future. Boat started like crap when all all summer in 2023. That fall before I winterized it, I took off the ignition coil and it was nasty - the socket was full of corrosion, and the...
Having had boats with both now, it’s a 100% worth it especially if you’re going to be pulling the motor anyways. I did a bit of research on kits for my old boat with a 5.7 and I remember there being a wide range of kits from very cheap to very expensive. If I were you, I would find the merc part...
Do you find that it floods after shutdown when warm? I suspect I'm having similar issues on my Weber (7.4), not so much the choke problem but def the dribble. The warm shut-down flooding being the biggest issue, was told floats could be out of spec or a needle issue. Starts great cold but is an...
Thanks for that # (y), still considerably more but ill take a look.
Yes it works, No its not broke. But I would rather know that I have fresh ignition system components vs dinking around on the water because 28y/o parts failed. I see zero point in doing a tune up without actually refreshing...
1995 7.4 Merc/Thunderbolt Ignition
S/N OF557755
Started the "tune up" process last spring by changing ignition wires and ignition sensor, and I'm going to finish up this fall by changing the cap & rotor. I know coils "never fail" but I'm going to remove mine to clean connections as my coil sits...
Positive its a return line, threaded fitting on the steering ram side, and a rubber hose clamped on the cooler side. Quicksilver part# #32-806221. Agreed it should be very low pressure, open flow. My system works fine, and I've witnessed back flow from the pump reservoir back to the cooler and...
Just replaced last night in the garage, blew for the 3rd time last week while on vacation. Band aid fixed it by trimming down but after three times it was obvious that something was wrong. Just hoping that the new line holds steady 🤞
Hi all,
Long story short is that I've blown PS return line right at the cooler for the 3rd time now. 1995 7.4 Bravo 1. I kept trimming the hose where it would burst/crack, and kept reinstalling until i finally ran out of line length and ended up replacing the entire part with a new quicksilver...
