1985 Force Carb Flange. What is this barbed fitting on the intake under the carb?

Kinda hard to tell exactly with that pic, but I believe that is part of the recirculation system.....that hose should go back to the cylinder drain cover, or "dog bone" as they call it. That system takes excess fuel from the cylinders and routes it to the intake to be burned up. If it is...

    199?? 40hp force year question

There should be several foundry stamps on the engine.......look on the block behind the ignition panel. Also on lower part of intake manifold. Has a circle with the year in the middle.....that is assuming it is the original power head.

    View from central Minnesota tonight

That is amazing......spent a week in Fairbanks Alaska 2 years ago and was in northern Norway earlier this year to see the lights......never saw anything like that. Central Minnesota. Wow.

View of unloaded trailer with pickups

I used the "turn around and look" method (no mirrors) for a long time and it worked great.....until you found your self trying to back down a ramp in your buddies Suburban to launch his boat. Learned real quick about using the side mirrors. Easier on the neck and back, too. Putting the tow...

    1974 Chrysler 135 hp limping

That is what I did a couple years ago......bought a rebuilt one from Franz Marine. It was actually a 1988 Force PH and he set it up to work on my engine (drilled/tapped for mounting the distributor and changed the crank bearing cage for the dist belt). Wiseco pistons. Everything bolted up...

    Picked up a 1990 Force 50HP yesterday.

My favorite, and it applies to anything with a motor....."Ran strong when parked ___ years ago". (fill in the blank)

I think the dumps around here will take a hull, not sure how much that would cost.......then there is the old trailer you would have to deal with, too, if it had one.

    Picked up a 1990 Force 50HP yesterday.

I was referring to the boat he took the motor off of......a project the previous owner never finished. I see that he has an aluminum boat he will be restoring to put the Force on. He won't have to worry about endless hours of grinding rotten wood, old fiberglass, etc. Should be a lot easier...

    Picked up a 1990 Force 50HP yesterday.

You are right, especially if it was an old fiberglass boat. At least you won't have a worthless hull to get rid of. Not sure what the completion rate is for project boats, but from what I have heard it is not very high. They start out with great intentions, but soon realize it was a lot more...

Don't they all say that? Sounds like you got the basics covered (comp-spark-carb-impeller). Wouldn't hurt to take the carb off and clean it real good, check the float level, etc, since it's been setting up for a few years. Good luck.
