    Winterize Engine That Won't Start

Oh Nevermind, I understand They do seal when the outer fittings is fully seated in the block side fitting. No water came out when any plugs were removed.

    Winterize Engine That Won't Start

Should my drain plugs be plugged? I have these metal fittings in the plugs and they don't seal/plug. The last bad photo is an inspection scope looking up in the exhaust manifold hole that the picture plug in my hand came out of.

    Winterize Engine That Won't Start

I'm working on a 7.4 mercruiser rebuild that hasn't started up yet. I've put the ear muffs on the outdrive to push water into it while turning it over. I think that means water has made it to the water pump and oil cooler and also the outdrive water passages. Since it hasn't run or had the...

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

    I removed all the sparkplugs and checked compression: Cylinder: PSI Plug Condition 1: 115 black 3: 125 clean 5: 113 clean 7: 150 clean 2: 120 black 4: 110 mostly clean 6: 118 black 8: 120 black

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

I bought an inspection camera so there is no doubt about if I'm on the compression stroke. Both valves were closed as the piston came up for the compression stroke. I marked the range where the piston isn't moving at the top of the stroke to make sure my timing mark is in the right place and it...

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

How would I check this? The machine shop installed the camshaft and crankshaft

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

I rotated the distributor cap about 45 degrees clock wise and counterclockwise from the starting position. When I got counter clockwise 45 degrees so the #8 plug is where the #1 was, it showed some signs of trying to start. Video attached.

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

The coil reads 12.4 V with the ignition on

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

I rechecked that it's on TDC on the stroke that generates compression pressure in cylinder 1. Using a compression tester it only triggers a jump in PSI every other manual rotation. On the cycle that generates pressure I rotated it to TDC. I rotated the distributor cap so the rotor is pointing at...

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

You've all helped me get fuel and spark, but I can't get the engine to start now. The machine shop installed the internal moving parts, I put everything else on and installed the engine. Spark: Most recently I verified cylinders 1 and 2 are sparking by setting the spark plug and wire against...

How to Diagnose No Fuel at Carb 7.4

The fuel pump wasn't working because the small overflow connection was clogged and created too much pressure in one side of the pump so it couldn't operate. I cleaned out the clogged connection and then the pump worked. I also cleaned the epoxy out of the pickup tube, replaced the lines going...

How to Diagnose No Fuel at Carb 7.4

In case anyone else comes to this thread, I think it's correct that you can blow through the fuel pump from the intake side to the fuel-out side. The one way valve prevents the fuel from going back out the intake and stops fuel from going into the fuel-out side, but air would pass all the way...

How to Diagnose No Fuel at Carb 7.4

I took the fuel pump off. I can freely blow air into the inlet and thru the out side so I guess that means it has failed, but looking inside the gaskets and everything seems to be in decent shape to me. Although I don't know exactly how it's supposed to look:
