I'm a newbie with my first boat. Recently bought an evirude 1975 50hp and am trying to change the impeller. I have all 4 screws off holding the lower unit including the two screws near the trim tab. It drops about 1/4 of an inch and stops. I figured the shift linkage needs to be disconnected...
I've gone through the basics and got this running pretty well. I just got an impeller and need to install this. Since I don't have a pee strream is there any indication that it's pumping water? I'm going to be safe and change the impeller every year. Anything else I should be doing to be on...
Finished restoring my 67 Stamas runabout. The 1975 rude 50hp was not my first choice but I got a sweet deal on it and the compression was good and even accross both cylinders. I took it for it's inagural (and only run) late last fall. Got on plane well. I did not see a pee stream and can't...
Finished all the issues with the boat (1961 15' Stamas runabout) and just recarpeted it. Turned my attention to the trailer this past week. Replaced the bearings. One side completely shot (literally in pieces) and grease cooked. Don't know how it made it home. Decided to do both sides to be...
I have a rebuild going on (61 Stamas Runabout) and recently went over the trailer. Just finished the bearings and re-wired it. Problem is that the signal lights stop working completely when I turn on my truck headlights. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Truck is new used and came...
The teleflex rack system for my Evinrude is incredible dificult to turn. It's a project boat so it came to me this way. I took the whole thing off, greased the teeth and it's no better. Steering wheel on back mount spins great. Cable that moves the rod attached to motor is slow and hard...
I just got a 1986 50 2 stroke merc from a friend for free. Motor came off his friend's boat who I just spoke with. The story is the water pump went and he siezed the motor. He bagan taking it apart and was told to junk it. Now I have it. I followed advice from this forum and checked for...
The motor came from a friend who knows nothing about motors and insisted that it had siezed up. Anyways, it mine and I followed some of the links here about resurecting a motor. The motor is a 1986 Merc. 50 hp elpto and doesn't seem (cosmetically) to have been beaten up. I pressure checked...
Just ran a compression test on the Evinrude 3.3 HP 1947-51 outboard I inherited. Both cylinders read 80#psi. Is this a good range? Would like to know before I continue on.
Thanks,
Joe
Anyone have a picture or know of a stand design that I can build out of wood which will allow me to work upright on the outboards I've collected?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
Once again thanks everyone for helping me out. I'm fixing up a 1961 stamas runabout and a friend gave me a 1960 Evinrude Lark II 40 hp. The boat is rated for up to 50 hp and is in decent shape. My question concerns the Lark II. I would like to know if it is too short for the boat that it is...
A friend wants to give me (Free) a 1990's 50 hp merc off his boat. He told me two of the three cylinders have good compression but one of the cylinders is siezed. Since I'm new to boating I would probably need to get the work done at a shop. Is it worth doing and how much (approx.) would it...
I'm new to boating and to this forum. Since I've joined a couple of weeks ago I have come into 4 engines antique and newer models outboards 3.3, 9.5 40, and 50 HP. These engines were all freebies and are now in my basement. I read here that I should begin with a compression test. How do I do...
